Visiting the Museum: Freilicht Museum am Kiekeberg, Hamburg

Hello, dear Hive community,

It's always nice to know the history of your own country and nation.

Today we went for a spontaneous trip in to the outskirts of Hamburg city. We took the bicycles and enjoyed after lunch the ride through the forest towards the Freilicht Museum am Kikeberg.

The museum took us back in time until 1560. Basically, it is a representation of the village and everyday life on the countryside.

It's very well organized and follows time changes and developments. From simple village houses to barns for animals, workshops, bakery, and blacksmith's workshops.

Surprisingly, we were so lucky today, as the exhibition from 1945. "Der erste Sommer im Frieden" was represented.

This event always takes place the weekend after the Acension day (in Germany: Himmelfahrt). The village was full of people dressed in old way fashion, and presenting old customs and life flow.

An amazing attraction was also a large pig family with newborns. As for the children, there were countless possibilities to play.

Later, with time, you could see the houses that were already more contemporary. There was a first petrol pump, dentist office, pharmacy and a tv/radio shop.

There is also a big museum dedicated to agriculture, where are presented old agricultural machinery such as combine harvester, tractor, plough, loader. The biggest machine weights 19 tons and looks like nobody could have ever driven this best.

It was a fantastic day! With small snack breaks in the nature and enjoying the German countryside.

The place is interesting to visit for older generation to relive their youth years and completely another world for younger people.

Back home after a long day, we are very thankful for this experience and happy to share the nice trip with you.
