Visiting the biggest mountain lake in Slovenia
Exploring Slovenian biggest mountain lake on around 1300 meter high, located in the west of Slovenia in the Julian Alps.
Hi dear Hive community!
We had an amazing time. Today early in the morning our alarm clock was ringing already at 6:30. Luckily, we prepared the most necessary things the night before. Grabbing the last essential food supplies, warm clothes and some hot tea, we were already in the car heading already towards the sunrise.
With good morning vibes and good conversations we made our first stop for our breakfast at one beautiful place which was on the way to the parking at Lepena.
Standing over the Soca river with the clear emerald river under us, we observed fishes and in the far distance we spotted a deer crossing the freezing cold river.
Strengthened from the breakfast we started the steep upward path towards the lake. After half an hour looking back from where we came from, it felt like we could fly. It was a nice view on the whole valley. Many times on the way up, we realized about the magnificent silence which we enjoyed a lot. In the summer, this area is horribly overcrowded due to tourist overtaking every hidden corner. For a visit, we recommend coming during early Spring, Winter or late Autumn.
Already struggling around one hour through the snow, we started reaching the upwards valley. On the way we saw ice candles, animal steps in the snow and many trees full of moss.
We've passed the cabin which was surprisingly open at this time. For longer hikes you can get a warm meal and shelter if you need.
Shortly after we've reached the Krn lake. Altogether we made 750 meters elevation up. The lake was frozen and tick ice was breaking, which we could even hear. That felt very different. It was windy and even some avalanches of rocks came down from the other side of the lake, which felt quite scary. Always staying on the safe side of life we found a small shelter next to the lake.
We took our pre-prepared food items out of the bags and started to make some breads, which we had to role that they became like traditional Indian chapatis. After one our making all this, we prepared the chicken curry which we had, and it was very tasty.
For a small rest, we took a five minutes break together in the hammock with the view on this beautiful scenario.
From there, we went back home. On the way again we found some weird footprints which were even fresh, which looked to us like a footprint of a smaller bear. Safe back home we're enjoying writing the story.
We wish you a very nice evening! And also, a happy Christmas to all 😊

Haha, that was the brilliant idea to took with us 🤗 As it's anow everywhere, you hardly can find a spot to sit down without getting wet, therfore hammock was perfect 😂
It is very smart idea to bring it in a camping.

Wow! Such a great experience. I am afraid of heights actually but looking at your pictures with the beautiful view of the said place motivates me to love heights. You are so blessed to be in that place. Thanks for sharing this one. Stay safe and God bless.
I think slowly and step by step you would reach all this nice places. There is elevation but paths are safe and no horror view down the valley.
Thank you very much! Greeting and all good to you too! 💫💛
Hopefully, but if it's not I did enjoy your virtual tour here. Extra careful upon going to this place I think. You're welcome. God bless.
