North Germany's coastal area: Camping at Rosenfelde by the Baltic sea
Hello dear Hiveans!
Last Thursday we spontaneously got a call asking if we want to join on a weekend trip to the Baltic Sea near a small place called Rosenfelde. This place lies between the medieval, history-filled city of Lübeck and the Fehman island, best known for the Jimi Hendrix festival.
A heatwave was forecasted in Hamburg, so we immediately embraced the escape to the coast and the fresh sea air.
Our equipment for exploring places and nature is richer for new mini camera GoPro, which has the great advantage of being waterproof. The images are also quite different, as they gain more range and are quite wide-angle. And it's soo easy to use with option even to track stary night!
Despite being by the sea and sunbathing on the beach, we couldn't work up the courage to jump in. The sky was very clear and sunny, but there was a really strong wind, which did not disturb most of the swimmers. This is the true north, different from the beaches where the sea is warm, and the beaches are crowded. Peace, quiet and nature live here. You always have a place and enough space for yourself in the sea and by the shore. And most importantly, you don't have to worry about accidentally stepping on someone!
Instead of that, the beaches are full of birds, specially swallows. They had their homes made on top of the high coast cliffs, where you could see only holes in the earth. They were singing and playing around, which was super appreciated early in the morning when waking up.
If the birds find home here in this nice area, other animals don't have that luck. We didn't spot any seashells or little crabs or fishes. Later we found out, that this is due to over fishing which consequently led to disrupted ecosystem making the sea completely dead. The only living creature were purple jellyfishes in the city harbor.
The wind forced us to wrap ourselves in warm blankets made of yak wool in the evening (which was almost as bright as the day). The positive side of it was a sea full of sailboats and catamarans, looking forward to the big waves. One of the catamarans even offered to join them for a sail on the sparkling sea.
The weekend was spent in a true holiday mood, strolling along the coast and nearby towns, where we enjoyed delicious cocktails. The small towns surprisingly seemed quite full, but only with local tourists from nearby.
Camping has its own charm as it challenges your creativity and always offers an adventure. We both absolutely love good food that we prepare ourselves. But it tastes even more special and better when it is prepared outside and in an original way. This weekend we had two delicious rich breakfasts with eggs and bacon. In the afternoon, we made coffee, and rewarded the ritual with a glass of good cognac and a cake. For a late lunch or dinner we had pasta with mushroom sauce and Rump steak and salad with peppers, cucumbers, and feta cheese.
We were also enjoying bike rides along the beach. We had even old school scooter with us, which was a super fun addition! Besides that, the camping place offers so many activities from mini golf, big chess to trampolines and volleyball court!
On the way home, the long queues and traffic jams on the motorway made us quite hungry, so on the way we turned into a nearby town on the motorway, where we stopped at a real Italian restaurant with excellent pizzas!
The weekend could not end more perfectly!
