Gardens and staying in Riad in Marakkesh, our last impressions of Morocco
Hi dear Hive community!
Our African adventure came to the end. Last three days were spent in busy Marakkesh even though we planed to visit also some outskirts, nature places like Cascades Ouzud. However due to lack of public transport connections, we did not want to risk to miss our flight which was from Marakkesh.
For the past three days we craved a peaceful place to be able to escape the lively and crowded streets of Marakkesh. We found a nice Riad (typical Moroccan stay) with a traditional rooftop, were we enjoyed our breakfast every morning and views on the busy city. Riads are like a usual hotel, but with very unique architecture. It has less rooms and a big open space, garden or a fountain in the middle. Must be nice to be there when it rains to enjoy the sound of raindrops right before your room.
You cannot visit Marrakesh without stopping in at least one beautiful garden. They are very famous for them. Many people take a walk here and admire the exotic plants, which you rarely see growing in Europe. There were many palm trees, exotic cactuses, orange trees, banana trees and even a sort of western banion tree which we saw in Asia. Gardens are well taken care of and plants get enough of water. Good atmosphere is also due to security guards which prevent local people (beggers or sellers) to come here and disturb the peaceful walk.
Overall, the experience in Morocco was amazing. We have met so many nice local people and other travelers along the way. Mostly we enjoyed company, warmth and old wisdoms of Berber culture, which is shrinking as westernisation is growing. We've learned there are three different subgroups of Berbers and they all speak different dialect. It's very different than Arabic language. Specially in Fes you can admire Berber arts and crafts.
Landscape is very diverse from high mountains, hilly olive plantations, seaside to a desert. Big cities can be overwhelming and crowded, therefore we suggest spending a day or two at most. Some interesting fact that we have found is that majority learn French language due to French colonization. Not many learn English. Due to that we needed to speak in gestures sometimes which is of course always funny.
Marakkesh offers a lot to see, there are plenty museums, palaces, gardens, art galleries, however you need to prepare quite some money to be able to see all. It's very similar of visiting European capitals Barcelona, Rome or Paris. That was another observation we saw, Morocco is not so cheap as we though, but still relatively cheaper than European countries (we made comparison with Slovenia).
We would like to thanks to all who were following us on our adventure in Morocco. It was a blast, and if anyone has visited it, please do share bellow how did you enjoy this exotic country!
Wish you a nice day!
