A SURE SIGN THAT SPRING HAS TRULY ARRIVED ~ Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 113

@nelinoeva, a true friend of birds and all of us bird lovers was not the only one coming back from vacation.

When the Robins make their way back to our neck of the woods, after vacationing in warmer weather, @farm-mom and I take a big sigh of relief, knowing that Spring is upon us.
Although one Robin, my beautiful wife, didn't fly south this year, all of the other Robins weren't as loyal, leaving us behind to weather the Winter. I guess some Robins are tougher than others.

Once these migratory birds come back to their real home, they get busy looking for a meal. With the patience of a saint, they will stand in the grass motionless, that's until they poke their head into the grass and come out with an earthworm. For the life of me, I'm not sure how they spot their prey.

Now that's a question that warrants a little research.

That didn't take long and here is what I learned today.

Through much research, it’s been determined that birds can locate worms just under the soil surface using three of their five senses. These include eyesight, hearing, and feeling the vibration under their feet.

The next time I need to find some worms to go fishing, I may have to lie in the grass with an ear pressed to the ground.

These two Robins look like they may be partners and it sure would be cool if

they decided to raise their little ones in the coolest bird nest I've ever run across, the HANES UNDERWEAR nest.

A pair of Robins brought their chicks up in the underwear nest last year. Whatever party constructed this nest gets an A+++ for nest building, the darn thing made it through the winter.

I thought these two pics were pretty neat.

It looks as though they have been edited, but this is exactly how they appeared once I downloaded them. These pictures were taken within minutes of the other pictures but appear as Black &White photos. Must have been the angle of the dangle, a term used by all professional photographers.

A lovely post and I like the innovation of the birds building that nest.
Just a tip, as I was an avid fisherman years ago. Plenty of earthworms can be found in a compost heap, but as a son of the soil, I think that you know this.

Must have been the angle of the dangle, a term used by all professional photographers.

So that's what they call it, as I also have some black and white shots appearing occasionally. I like that angle of the dangle term, as it is very fitting.

Stay well my friend and we hope that you guys will have a good weekend!

I thought that you would know that term being you're a pro.

Earthworms, all over the place until you want to go fishing.

We shall be having a great weekend. We're headed to Pennsylvania for a visit with our daughter and our new son. I better start getting ready soon, at least that's what the wife is letting me know.
We're supposed to leave by 2 and that's hours away, I'm still planning on planting our carrot seeds.
It takes most men less than a half of an hour and they are ready to walk out the door.
Now, women in general need a little more time then that 10 fold.

Have a wonderful weekend also.

Nope, I definitely don't regard myself as a pro !LOLZ

Hahaha, yes, the worms can be scarce at times and I don't know if you guys also have flying ants. Fish love them and we used to catch them to put them in bottles in the freezer and to use them for bait during our winter seasons.

Oh yes, the wife let me know about your planned visit and it sounds exciting. I totally agree with you about the habit of tardiness that women suffer from when one wants to leave.
My wife has the same old excuse, as "there are many things to do" before we leave at last.

So, have a great time and we will pray for travel mercies.

Blessings!

Hahaha
How sure are you that the two Robins are partners?

I saw them happily building a nest together, and he blinked at her a few times.

I remember seeing a robin a few weeks ago but is sure don't feel like spring is here yet! Lately, I have been seeing (and hearing) cardinals and so many others. With this little cool weather pause, feels like we are about to explode into spring soon!

Mercifully few underwear nests spotted so far though.

We've just seen the 1st Goldfinch of the year. With as cold as it's been here, I wouldn't blame him if he turned around and went back to warmer weather.

They are predicting snow flurries for tomorrow. Do you think either of us will ever get our garden planted?

What a beautiful post about the robins. This is amazing how they can feel the earthwoorms. Also something new for me to learn today.

The last two shots are also awesome and it is true that the angle of the dangle is very important. 😀
