Hive Snap officially supported by Metamask wallet

I am proud to announce wonderful news. Today, we have received an information on official enlisting our Hive Snap implementation by Metamask 🦊 Team.

This way, we have finished 🏁 a complex 🔥 process of official acceptance of Snap implementation by MetaMask.
To refresh your memory a bit, let me describe the steps we had to go through...
- Implementation and internal testing: this stage was quite smooth and straightforward 😎 due to exceptional talent and experience of Bees 🐝 that worked hard on it. We announced it in the Hive Birthday article.
- Once it was implemented and tested (due to MetaMask requirements), we asked Hacken - one of officially approved MetaMask auditors - for verification of our software.
They analyzed our snap codebase thoroughly. The moment we fixed a few findings they created the security audit report 🛡️. - In the meantime, we have also requested to register Hive for official slip-44 list maintained by SatoshiLabs, which was completed in this PR.
- At this point we were ready for applying for allowlisting to MetaMask team and cooperating with them to make this process smooth.
For those who have not seen it yet, the architecture, development and audit processes have been described here.
It is worth mentioning that Hive snap configuration process allows requesting a new Hive account creation or extending authority of your existing one by interacting with Hive Bridge service. All you need is to install a MetaMask official extension to your browser and then complete an automatically started wizard.
The above service allows requesting Hive account creation in a very convenient and easy way - just by sharing a creation link with your Hive friend who should execute a prepared transaction.
We hope that MetaMask integration will bring new users 🧑🤝🧑 to our platform as well as will make lives of those having accounts on different chains simpler... Increasing 🚀 Hive popularity is one of our key goals...

Great stuff! Integrating with Metamask is a great step forward. Do you know if there will also be any marketing by Metamask?
Well, I doubt if this is something we should expect. But as one of positives: our successfully passed security audit prepared by Hacken resulted in some marketing activity at their side.
What does it mean in practice? Is it possible to list Hive as token in the Metamask wallet?
Is it possible to swap ETH to Hive via Metamask?

Thanks for good words. I think you should try our wax library and lately added support for external signature providers (including Metamask wallet). There is also dedicated support for custom-jsons. Also such forming "Hive standard" which we're calling HiveApps operations (like follow, reblog, etc). We are at the end of creation official high level documentation for wax - including snippets which you can run on the fly - in your browser, just by clicking a link. I hope it will clarify a lot :-)
Yes, making Hive user and developer friendly is something what we must do.
According to looking for your private keys associated to MM wallet: the true is noone saw them :-) MM allows just to derive keys from master password. Noone has access to them, they just are used (by MM) while signing process is performed. Our setup process just uses related public keys to correctly setup authority of your new (or existing) account - such case is also supported.
Our plan is ofc to extend support for MM signature provider in all our tools, including Denser (replacement for Condenser now serving hive.blog).
yes, Hive is known token by MetaMask wallet. Like everyone supporting list mentioned in https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md
Unfortunetely to make possible blockchain interoperability we need a lot more than wallet support. Maybe supporting atom will bring to us another level of happiness :-)

I used Metamask a lot previously, but have become more Hive centric in my operations, so this is a great alternative to existing paths off and onto Hive.

Question: Is there plan to expand this snap to support multichain ?
This snap app allows to interact to Hive blockchain using Metamask wallet, which unifies access to multiple chain accounts. But true multichain support means that Hive as a blockchain has ability to interact to other chains. To make it possible some cross chain communication must be implemented (what is out of scope of snap implementation).
Anyway in our dreams we'd like to have Hive blockchain integration to the Cosmos and underlying Atom chain... Hopefully such dreams will someday come true...
