Toasted Tangerine Testers Pre-Harvest Update!

What's up my fellow Cannabis Lovers and Enthusiasts!? It's time to welcome you all back to another edition of:

png_20221201_140116_0000.png

In this edition, we're going to focus on the [Toasted Tangerine F2] Feminized Autoflowering Tester Beans created by @bifbeans Breeder "Macronut"!

20221201_135530_0000.png

It's been a while since I posted about these babies, so we definitely have a lot to cover, but I'll try to keep it as quick as possible, but I still hope you all enjoy!!

In the last update, we left off on the 23rd of December, when I gave our plants an early Christmas present by switching out to a 1000W HPS light!

20221202_054545_0000.png

So picking back up ont the Christmas Day, I have both of these babies a half gallon worth of my own mixture of Grow Big and Tiger Bloom Liquid Nutrients by Fox Farms!

IMG_20221226_004939689.jpg

I mixed them separately for some reason, and out of the half gallon I used, 3/4 of that was 10mL per Gallon of Tiger Bloom, and the 1/4 quarter was 15mL per Gallon of Grow Big!

20221202_054545_0000.png

On the 26th, I started performing some light training on the untopped tester, by spreading out the two middle branches. After splitting the top of this baby, I was definitely trying to take it easy on her!

IMG_20221227_085159288.jpg

IMG_20221227_085150172.jpg

I also decided to tuck some of the fan leaves on this girl, rather than defoliating, just to see the difference between the two methods! As a newbie grower in my first year, I want to find the methods that work best for me, and the only way to figure them out is to try them for myself!

IMG_20221227_085213309_HDR.jpg

I went ahead a stripped some of the bottom sets of fan leaves that were looking a little sickly compared to the others!

20221202_054545_0000.png

On the 27th, I gave them another half gallon worth of my Grow Big and Tiger Bloom Liquid Nutrient solution, which contained 15mL per Gallon of Grow Big and 10mL per Gallon of Tiger Bloom!

The topped tester seemed to be responding well to the training I subjected her to, so that's a good sign! These girls really are hardy and stress resistant - which is good for me since this is my first auto run!

20221202_054545_0000.png

I fed these girls another round of the same mixture of nutrients on the 28th, in an attempt to boost the Phosphorus and Potassium Levels in the soil as we're heading into the flowering stage.

IMG_20221229_131117024_HDR.jpg

As of right now, I really don't mind the Fox Farms nutrient line, and I do notice a difference between my first outdoor run without nutrients! However, I do want to try out another line on my next run and see if the results are any different!

IMG_20221230_013549783.jpg

IMG_20221229_131109026_HDR.jpg

20221202_054545_0000.png

Moving on to December 30th, I fed them again since the buckets were getting light! At this point, bottom feeding in trays seems to be like a better option, but I definitely need to get my setup dialed in before making a change like that!

IMG_20230101_042905345.jpg

IMG_20230101_042953352.jpg

So, I went ahead and top fed these girls another half gallon worth of nutrients, but this time I increased the Tiger Bloom portion of my mixture to 15mL per Gallon! Macronut had said that these babies feel the need for feed, so I know they will need a heavy dose, but I want to start them off gradually!

IMG_20230101_043051125_HDR.jpg

IMG_20230101_043116679.jpg

20221202_054545_0000.png

The buckets were light again on the 31st, so I went ahead and gave them another round of the same 15mL/Gallon solution of both Grow Big and Tiger Bloom!

20221202_054545_0000.png

Once again the buckets were dry on the 1st of January, so I gave them another half gallon worth of Tiger Bloom, but this time, I jumped up the solution to 20mL/gallon!

IMG_20230102_162216375.jpg

The larger of the [Toasted Tangerine] plants is definitely sucking up a lot of moisture in the bucket in a very small amount of time! I went ahead and gave this girl another half gallon of Tiger Bloom, at the same 20mL solution the very next day! This is the "heavy" feeding recommendation on the back of the bottle, so I won't be increasing the solution from here on out!

IMG_20230102_162051393_HDR.jpg

I still haven't really touched these girls on defoliation, but I have started picking a few of the major fan leaves at a time, just to keep opening up some of the bud sites on the inner sections of the plant! I'm still really scared when it comes to defoliation, and I believe I performed too heavy a defoliation on my other testers; for these girls, I decided to keep them as close to natural as I could!

20221202_054545_0000.png

I ended up feeding both of these girls again on the 3rd, giving them both a half gallon worth of the heavy Tiger Bloom solution! I am starting to run out of nutrients however, and as far as the Fox Farm Liquid Nutrients go, they don't seem to last very long! I'll definitely be looking into new nutrients very soon!

20221202_054545_0000.png

I didn't do anything with these girls until the 7th of January, when I gave the larger [Toasted Tangerine] plant a half gallon worth of the heavy Tiger Bloom solution!

IMG_20230107_033058749_HDR.jpg

I'm also running extremely low at this point, and had enough for maybe one more mix worth, if that. So I decided to give the untopped plant a mixture of 10mL per gallon of Tiger Bloom, and 5mL per gallon of Grow Big.

IMG_20230107_032938040_HDR.jpg

IMG_20230107_033046425_HDR.jpg

20221202_054545_0000.png

These girls are really hitting their stride, and are sucking the moisture up like crazy! Unfortunately enough, I didn't have enough Tiger Bloom nutrients to give them, so I had to give them regular de-gassed tap water!

It's still crazy to me that the Tiger Bloom nutrients only last me a total of 3 weeks (December 21st - January 7th), and these girls handled a heavy feeding schedule like champions! Which begs me to wonder how well Fox Farms nutrients really work!

20221202_054545_0000.png

I had just enough nutrients to make one more heavy feeding batch, but only one gallon worth. So on January 10th, I have all 4 of my testers a quarter gallon worth, just to give them all an equal amount, and gave them an extra quarter gallon of regular tap water.

IMG_20230110_104800216.jpg

IMG_20230110_104752771.jpg

20221202_054545_0000.png

Since I ran out of nutrients, and all I could really do at this point was water and wait, I didn't do much inside the tent after the 10th. Although, I will say that these girls steadily sucked down a half gallon of water per day between January 11th and January 26th. That totaled out to about 7 and a half gallons of water per plant during a 15 day time period!

IMG_20230121_050442048.jpg

IMG_20230117_153907351.jpg

IMG_20230122_233133981~2.jpg

20221202_054545_0000.png

I ended up finding a section of Bud Rot on one of my other testers on January 27th, and stupidly enough, I opened it up inside of the tent.

After freaking out (and damn near crying), I decided to harvest the infected testers, but with how long it took me to harvest, wash, and trim them (and with spores potentially infecting these babies) I felt it was best to harvest these girls early as well, and perform the same bud wash during harvest.

20221202_054545_0000.png

Unfortunately, I think that's where we'll end this post, but I will say that I did get to harvest these girls on January 29th, which would have placed them around day 72 from sprout! I personally think they could have gone the entire 80 days (and possibly a little longer on the untopped plant) but due to the potential mycelium outbreak from the Bud Rot, I didn't want to take any chances!

Since I am looking into replacing my liquid nutes with a high-quality powdered formula, I figured this would be a great time to feature SimPro Formula Nutrients! Made with organic seaweed, yucca, all-natural minerals, and amino acids, these specially formulated powdered nutrients are developed By Professional Growers, For Professional Growers, and are exactly what they claim to be - Simply Professional!

Whether your plants are still in Vegetation, or even if they are already Flowering, SimPro Formula One-Part Powdered Nutrients are specially designed to give you Simply Professional results during the different growth phases of your plants! For those of you (like myself) who reuse their soil, SimPro also makes a Microbe Formula packed with beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi to help rejuvenate your soil after harvest!

While this isn't BIFBeans' recommended nutrient line, I do know of a few growers that use it with fantastic results - and I really want to try them out for myself!

Thanks brother! I am definitely impressed with these autos, not to mention the genetics from @bifbeans! I definitely want to check out some of their other strains too! Any suggestions for a heavy hitting indica?

Thank you bro! I am very happy with the way these girls turned out! I definitely found that nutrients definitely play a key roll in plant health and quality. I can definitely tell a difference between my first grow (no nutrients) and these girls for sure!

I'm going be changing up nutes on my next run as well, and see if there is a difference between the Fox Farms liquid nutes and these new Strive powdered nutrients. Supposedly, you don't need any other additional supplements (like cal-mag), they're an all in one nutrient from sprout to harvest, so I'm very interested to see the results!

I agree; it was truly disheartening to see! Luckily, I was able to salvage all but a few tops that were infected, and I'll be posting a smoke report very soon! 💚

It definitely lives up to it's name with the sweet citrus scent it has, and I'll be posting a smoke report, so I don't want to give too much away, but it is pretty tasty ☺️

It was truly incredible to see these girls grow, the genetics at @bifbeans are truly amazing! These girls were very resilient, and took the (unintentionally brutal) training like champions! It was really crazy to me at how much they required feeding, and didn't seem to mind the daily heavy doses at all!
