Taking Down The Old Water Tower.

avatar

The warmer weather has finally arrived and I took the motorcycle for a little ride around town. I had heard they were tearing down the old water tower. By chance, I happened to pass by as they were dismantling it today.

The water tower and community pool.

When I was a kid I had two uncles that were painters. They worked painting this tower on several occasions. I thought it was the coolest thing. I'd swim in the pool with friends and watch them work.

My uncle didn't want me to become a painter and made me promise I wouldn't become a painter when I grew up. He was worried I would because I really looked up to him... No pun intended 🤣

A closer shot.

You can pretty much see the water tower from everywhere in town. It's going to be weird seeing it gone. I often wondered if it still held water. I've read several conspiracy theories about them all being empty and getting dismantled. Now this one is gone and I haven't heard talk of a replacement. So I'm guessing those are more conspiracy theories that are now conspiracy facts.

A zoom from the grocery store parking lot. This is the other side of it.

Here it is from the back, I took this in the grocery store parking lot. Seems like an odd time to remove this thing. I always thought these were emergency water supply tanks. Are these uncertain times, just not that uncertain? I don't get it.

Well, before I get all Alex Jones on ya, I'm a leave it here. I just thought I'd share a childhood memory with my Hive friends. To this day, I still think about both of my uncles every time I drive by that water tower. One recently passed away, and the other is really getting up there in years. I'll miss this subtle reminder of them when it's gone.

Aside from you're sharing your fondest Childhoold memories, actually your #ulog reminded me of the old days blogging. I remember there were some initiatives about it. Are they going to replace the tower with something else?

I wasn't sure if the ulog tag was still active, but couldn't think of anywhere else to put this post, so I used it. As far as I know, there is no replacement planned for the water tower. I guess this is happening all around the country. I keep a few gallons of water on hand at all times, I think I'll add to my personal emergency water supply now.

Do you know how long it has been there? We have some water towers around here, but they tend to be big concrete things. They are used to give some water pressure, but maybe there are other ways to do that now. I am not sure the old ones could supply the growing population. I'm sure yours was a local landmark. Was there anything taller nearby?

I really don't. Before my time. They were always there.

I did not know this, that's really interesting I'll have to look into that.

Pretty sure the population is shrinking around here. It's an old industrial town for the most part. Most of the industry has gone overseas. We are growing in biotech now thanks to the university and the medical corridor they created.

I'm sure yours was a local landmark. Was there anything taller nearby?

Pretty much the tallest structure in town. I think we have two apartment complexes that were close to that height. Those were on the other side of town.

The other structure that was tallest were some old grain elevators but they knocked those down several years ago.
