Digging Out - Blizzard Of 2022 - Last Blizzard Post

They opened the city today and I took a little drive around town. It's been about 3 days since the worst of the storm passed. There is snow everywhere.

The above picture was the day after Xmas. I live a couple city blocks outside the city. Cleanup is much faster in the suburbs.

It took me 3 days to remove the snow from the walkway in front of the house. 3 of the 5 snowblowers from the snowblower parade are now broke. My next door neighbor killed his snowblower the night before. The wind was so strong it actually packed the snow down making it very difficult to remove. The snowblower repair shop guys just got a major windfall from this storm.

One of my neighbors forgot to put his motorcycle away. 🤣😂 At least it's not buried.

They brought in bulldozers and dunp trucks to remove the snow. Most of this will fill the city parks until it melts. They used to just dump it into the lake, but stopped for environmental reasons.

The streets are like snow-lined alleys. This was taken in the city this afternoon. Traffic is a bit congested, but cleanup in North Buffalo looks pretty good. I hear the Southtown are still a real mess though in some parts.

I have to say, I've seen much more damaging storms but this was really bad. The death count is currently at about 30 people. The last time we had a storm like this they were finding bodies months later as the snow drifts all started to melt.

That was in the 70s though when we had a good 6 months of winter. Now we have cold days and warm days. I'm guessing the snow will be melted by next week. We're supposed to have 50° weather in the next couple days. The body count will probably continue to rise.

Flooding will probably be the next major concern, luckily I'm not in a flood zone.

Well, it looks like the worst of it is over. Most of the fatalities so far have been people taken by surprise. They weren't dressed properly and got stranded in a car. A lot of heart attacks from older people trying to remove the snow. The usual accidents too.

I'm glad this is over. Growing up here, you get pretty used to this type of weather. Just like someone from Florida can relate to hurricanes or someone from Califormia just shrugs off an earthquake. This was different though, this was one of those storms that will go down in the local history books.

This storm reminded me of the importance of preparedness. Expect more prepper posts in the future now. A lot of deaths probably could have been avoided if people were better prepared. A simple bag of warm clothes in the trunk of a car could have saved a life or two I'm sure.

It's sad this storm happened at such a festive time of year. Our extended family will be celebrating our Christmas this New Year's Eve.

Well that's about all I got. Stay safe out there people and hug your loved ones. Nothing in this world is certain. Life and death have a way of throwing us the occasional curveball.

Wishing you all happy holidays and a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Driving in this weather is also fun. But you can enjoy only when if you are completely free and you are out to have fun. If you are out of an important work and the situation becomes like this, you may face a lot of problems. But most people have fun in these situations and enjoy the beauty of nature.

This was anything but fun. I get your point though, winter driving is a blast. I picked up some drifting skills learning to drive in the snow 🤣😂

This was definitely not a day for joy riding in the snow though.

I would expect you guys to be ready for bad weather. We get heavy snow every few years and it causes chaos. Not many snowploughs around here and I've never owned a blower. Stay well.

This was a little different. A lot of people are giving the mayor and governor a hard time over the cleanup. Considering we got our annual snowfall in 2 days, I'd say they did a decent job. This is coming from a guy who thinks they can't do anything right... So IDk. It could have been worse. I don't think the weather model predicted it would stall out over the city and keep dumping snow either. It was like the perfect storm of snow and chaos for sure.

It's hard to be prepared for a once in a lifetime event. If those start happening more often then policies need to change.

Those who live in snow-covered areas are in for a tough time as cars, motorcycles, and roads become more and more crowded. And if some household goods are needed and it is snowing, it is very difficult to go and get them. The government there should keep the mother-in-law cleaning things up so that the people living there don't get disturbed.

It was supposed to be a tough winter, nobody was expecting this though. Good reason to keep the pantry stocked as well.

😣😎🤙 now that's some snow..

That poor bike!

I used to live in Ohio.. I miss snow days, but not the cold, or probable even the snow would now suck since I am no longer in school.. :P

I grew up in Wisconsin and remember storms. I remember one year there was so much snow that was piled up on the side of the streets quite a bit taller than me. There were lots of accidents because you couldn't see if anyone was coming around the corner due to the snow banks. This was in the late 1970's.

My brother was driving my car once, to pick me up, and was in an accident in it just because he couldn't see over and around the snow. It was half a block from our house. My other brother came to pick me up instead and didn't tell me until I saw an accident at the end of our block. I mentioned the accident and he told me it was my car. Surprise!

We were trained to keep blankets either inside the car or in the trunk - just in case.

The snow banks are that high here right now. I Inch out into the street real slowly!

Same here with the blankets. I almost always have blankets and a change of warm clothes in the trunk, especially this time of year.

Hope you're warm and dry wherever you are now! I lived in Las Vegas for a bit and really didn't miss the winters at all 🤣😂

We're across the bay from Galveston, TX. This past week the freeze hit here, too, and we lost our water due to a pipe break under the house. Our church, just next door to us, also had an outside pipe break.

At least we didn't have precipitation with the cold weather (not prepared for that here), but we did have lots of rain when it got into the 70's this week. One extreme to the other!
