« ¿Sabes lo que es un "CosTest"? »
También conocida como "Prueba de Cosplay" (que es diferente a "una Proyección de Cosplay"), es un ejercicio donde la persona toma los elementos estéticos más básicos del personaje que le gustaría interpretar.
« ¿A qué te refieres con "elementos básicos"? »
Estos elementos básicos pueden ser una peluca, prenda de vestir, accesorio o estilo de maquillaje igual o relativamente similar al personaje y versión que quieres recrear.
« ¿Por qué motivos haría un "CosTest"? »
Las razones por las que un Cosplayer (o cualquier persona) hace CosTest pueden ser muchas y muy diferentes, porque depende de las motivaciones y objetivos personales de cada artista:
Quizá necesitas un preview de cómo se te vería el personaje para decidir cómo invertirás tus recursos (por ejemplo, el maquillaje o lentes de contacto que tienes en tu repertorio y creías ideales puede que no luzcan como creías).
Es posible que no sepas qué versión del personaje te gusta más, ¿comic, animación, ovas, película, novela, alguna ilustración conmemorativa especial?, ¡hay mucho de donde escoger!.

El ejercicio del CosTest te ofrece la oportunidad de experimentar varias veces con uno o más elementos que componen tu proyecto hasta encontrar las técnicas y estilo que se acerquen a tu vision de cómo te gustaría lucir.
Esperar hasta el día del estreno de tu Cosplay o una actividad competitiva para probarte por primera vez el traje, la peluca o maquillarte es bastante arriesgado.

Algunas sesiones previas de CosTest también son un refuerzo para sentir más confianza y descubrir qué dinámicas de preparación Cosplayeril funcionan para ti.
Podrás anotar con certeza cuánto tiempo te toma estar listo, y saber qué cosas necesitas para prepararte y qué cosas no. Te hará sentir mas ligero y con menos estrés el día que utilices tu Cosplay.
Por supuesto, a algunos Cosplayers no les gusta hacer CosTest, mucho menos publicar estos primeros previews de su proceso y es algo absolutamente válido y respetable.
Sin embargo yo les invitaría con cariño a poner en práctica este ejercicio porque te ayuda muchísimo a conocerte, a conocer tu rostro, tu cuerpo; esto sin lugar a dudas nutrirá tu proyecto.
Cada ensayo y error te permitirá descubrir qué te gusta y qué no, te da la oportunidad de reconsiderar tus decisiones y hacer inversiones mas sabias.
« Mis motivaciones para empezar a hacer "CosTest" »
Hablando de mi, mis CosTest siempre han sido cuando el traje esta listo, es decir hago pruebas generales cuando las partes mas contundentes del conjunto ya están listas.
Me he dado cuenta que la mayoría de mi carrera como Cosplayer en su momento mas activo fue en gran parte competitiva, sé cómo prepararme para una competencia y cumplir con todos los requerimientos de casi cualquier reglamento.
Pero nunca hice pruebas desde la etapa mas temprana de mis proyectos (las pruebas coincidían con los ensayos del performance) y es algo que podría y quiero mejorar, quiero cambiar para disfrutar más mi selección de personajes, en lugar de "aguantarme la emoción porque todavía no es perfecto".
« ¿Qué hice para mi primer "CosTest" de LianLian? »
Comencé por preparar mi piel, y después de maquillarme minuciosamente 3 veces con técnicas distintas (para perfilar la nariz y los ojos) ninguna quedo bien. Era de madrugada así que me tome el proceso con bastante tranquilidad, e hice video llamada con 2 amigas para acompañarme durante el proceso.
Después de esos 3 intentos fallidos medite con calma y pensé que lo mejor sería regresar a lo básico. Limpie muy bien mi rostro, volví a prepararlo, y solo hice las cejas, los labios, poco contorno en el cuello, rubor en las mejillas, y poca sombra en los ojos.
También utilicé una prenda cruzada de corte genérico de mi repertorio, pero que se asemeja muchísimo a la ropa interior de LianLian (caímos en cuenta que estas fotos son como la perspectiva de lo que vería Hua Cheng de noche y nos reímos muchísimo, de verdad no era la intensión, luego me sentí shy).
La peluca no esta peinada, para nada esta peinada jajaja, solo recogí un poco algunos mechones y los sostuve con un ganchillo detrás de mi cabeza.
No he podido comenzar a estilizarla porque todas mis cabezas para pelucas de Cosplay están ocupadas. Debo comprar al menos 2 nuevas pronto.
« ¿Cuál es la fecha de estreno para este proyecto? »
"Tian Guan Ci Fu" o "Heaven Official's Blessing" (天官赐福) sigue siendo mi main fandom en estos momentos, la semana pasada anunciaron la publicación de las novelas en idioma español y salió un nuevo capítulo del Manhua así como del Donghua.
Mi salud en este momento no es la mejor, eso junto a otras circunstancias personales hacen que no pueda empezar a fabricar el traje de Xie Lian pero eso no quiere decir que he olvidado el proyecto o que siento menos emoción por el, todo lo contrario.
Este CosTest ha sido un consuelo muy grande que pienso repetir mientras me recupero, amo mucho a Xie Lian, muchísimo, y no puedo esperar a estar en su piel con todo el proyecto completo como lo visualizo.
De este ejercicio creo que lo que mejor que funcionará para mi es imitar los maquillajes que hacen para los actores de Novelas Chinas, como los que usa Dylan Wang (cejas rectas y piel despejada), creo es el momento de que aproveche la estética tan peculiar de mis ojos, en lugar de tratar de disimularla para verme occidental.

Also known as "Cosplay Test" (which is different from "a Cosplay Projection"), it is an exercise where the person takes the most basic aesthetic elements of the character they would like to play.

These basic elements can be a wig, clothing item, accessory, or makeup style the same or relatively similar to the character and version you want to recreate.
« For what reasons would you do a "CosTest"? »
The reasons why a Cosplayer (or anyone) does CosTest can be many and very different, because it depends on the personal motivations and goals of each artist:
You may need a preview of what the character would look like to decide how you will invest your resources (for example, the makeup or contact lenses you have in your repertoire that you thought were ideal may not look the way you thought they would).
You may not know which version of the character you like best, comic, animation, ovas, movie, novel, some special commemorative illustration, there's a lot to choose from!.

The CosTest exercise gives you the opportunity to experiment several times with one or more elements that make up your project until you find the techniques and style that come close to your vision of how you'd like to look.
Waiting until the day of your cosplay premiere or a competitive activity to try on your costume, wig or makeup for the first time is quite risky.

Some previous CosTest sessions also are a booster to feel more confident and discover what Cosplayeril preparation dynamics work for you.
You'll be able to note with certainty how long it takes you to get ready, and know what things you need to get ready and what things you don't. It will make you feel lighter and less stressed the day you wear your Cosplay.
Of course, some Cosplayers don't like to do CosTest, much less publish these first previews of their process and that is absolutely valid and respectable.
However, I would warmly invite you to put this exercise into practice because it helps you a lot to know yourself, to know your face, your body; this will undoubtedly nurture your project.
Each trial and error will allow you to discover what you like and what you don't like, it gives you the opportunity to reconsider your decisions and make wiser investments.
« My motivations to start doing "CosTest" »
Speaking of me, my CosTests have always been when the suit is ready, i.e. I do general testing when the most cogent parts of the ensemble are ready.
I've realized that most of my career as a Cosplayer at its most active was largely competitive, I know how to prepare for a competition and meet all the requirements of almost any regulation.
But I never tested from the earliest stage of my projects (testing coincided with performance rehearsals) and it's something I could and want to improve, I want to change to enjoy my character selection more, instead of "holding in my excitement because it's not perfect yet.
« What did I do for my first LianLian "CosTest?" »
I started by prepping my skin, and after thoroughly doing my makeup 3 times with different techniques (to outline my nose and eyes) none of them looked good. It was early in the morning so I took the process quite easy, and made video calls with 2 friends to accompany me during the process.
After those 3 failed attempts I thought it best to go back to basics, cleaned my face very well, redid my face, and only did eyebrows, lips, little contouring on the neck, blush on the cheeks, and little shadow on the eyes.
I also used a generic cross cut garment from my repertoire, but that looks a lot like LianLian's underwear (we realized that these photos are like the perspective of what Hua Cheng would look like at night and we laughed a lot, it really wasn't the intention, then I felt shy).
The wig is not styled, it's not styled at all hahaha, I just picked up a few strands and held them with a crochet hook behind my head.
I haven't been able to start styling it because all my Cosplay wig heads are taken. I must buy at least 2 new ones soon.
« What is the release date for this project? »

My health at the moment is not the best, that along with other personal circumstances make me unable to start making the Xie Lian costume but that does not mean that I have forgotten the project or that I feel less excitement about it, quite the contrary.
This CosTest has been a very great comfort that I plan to repeat as I recover, I love Xie Lian, very much, and can't wait to be in they skin with the whole project complete as I envision it.
From this exercise I think what will work best for me is to imitate the make-up they do for the actors of Chinese Novels, like the ones Dylan Wang uses (straight eyebrows and clear skin), I think it is time for me to take advantage of the peculiar aesthetic of my eyes, instead of trying to disguise it to look western.
