✦ On Monday of this week I was able to go shopping to finally accomplish something that was long overdue: My old pins are crying out for retirement 😂 📌 💦 ✦
🇪🇸 ~ Cada artista textil (amateur o experto) tenemos nuestra lista personal de "indispensables" a la hora de crear, y esa lista puede estar compuesta tanto por lo mucho, como por lo poco, ¿verdad?; yo me siento a gusto con algunas herramientas sencillas pero puntuales, no necesito nada especializado por ahora, pero para mi es crucial que todas estén en buen estado... y aunque seas una persona delicada que trate cada herramienta con cariño y respeto, todo tiene un tiempo de vida.
🇺🇸 ~ Every textile artist (amateur or expert) has our personal list of "must-haves" when it comes to creating, and that list can be composed of both a lot and a little, right? I feel comfortable with some simple but specific tools, I don't need anything specialized for now, but for me it is crucial that they are all in good condition... and even if you are a delicate person who treats each tool with love and respect, everything has a life time.
En mi costurero hay 3 saca hilos y cada uno estaba dañado por diferentes partes, uno perdió el filo, otro tenía el mango roto y el otro se quebró su tapida protectora (el mas grande, que no me sirve para descoser telas delicadas). Compre este nuevo des cosedor por su mango que parece bastante cómodo, tiene un peso agradable y no se siente endeble.
In my sewing box there are 3 thread pullers and each one was damaged in different parts, one lost its edge, another one had a broken handle and the other one broke its protective cover (the biggest one, which is not useful for unpicking delicate fabrics). I bought this new destitcher for its handle which seems quite comfortable, has a nice weight and doesn't feel flimsy.
También renové mi apartado para las agujas. Tanto las que uso para la máquina de coser como las que utilizo para coser a mano. Después de probar estas delicadas agujas finas (se deslizan como mantequilla a traves de telas gruesas, y no lastiman los tejidos frágiles) no he querido regresar a las agujas regulares, coser con ellas se siente suave y los dedos sufren menos.
I also renewed my section for needles. Both the ones I use for the sewing machine and the ones I use for hand sewing. After trying these delicate fine needles (they glide like butter through thick fabrics, and don't hurt fragile fabrics) I haven't wanted to go back to regular needles, sewing with them feels smooth and my fingers suffer less.
Y en cuanto a "las agujas punta de bola", le he tomado consejo a una amiga muy talentosa que me las recomendó, me falto conseguir el blister de las N° 10.
And as for "the ball point needles", I have taken advice from a very talented friend who recommended them to me, I could not get the blister of the N° 10.
Por otro lado y aunque suene asombroso, ¡me quede sin hilos individuales de colores!, casi todos los hilos "pequeños" de mis 2 cajas de hilos me los acabé el mes pasado, los que me quedan están a medio camino de terminarse, o son carretes que han estado guardados por muchos años y no estoy segura de si todavía sirven o han caducado.
On the other hand and as amazing as it sounds, I am out of individual colored yarns, almost all of the "small" yarns in my 2 boxes of yarns I ran out of last month, the ones I have left are halfway finished, or are spools that have been in storage for many years and I am not sure if they are still good or have expired.
Me pareció buena idea comprar lo que llamo "la escalera básica" de un solo golpe: Blanco, negro, beige, gris, amarillo, azul, rojo, y después escoger sus variantes (morado, verde, marron, anaranjado, celeste, rosa, etc) todos de "Spun Polyester" (según, es un tipo de hilo muy resistente ideal para telas elásticas).
I thought it was a good idea to buy what I call "the basic ladder" in one go: White, black, beige, gray, yellow, blue, red, and then choose its variants (purple, green, brown, orange, light blue, pink, etc) all made of "Spun Polyester" (according to me, it is a very resistant thread ideal for elastic fabrics).

Y ahora la principal razón por la que no podia posponer mas esta cita de renovación, los alfileres. Mis alfileres pequeños han visto años y años de proyectos y trabajos, de ellos habrá sobrevivido quizá la mitad de la cantidad original de la caja; están oxidados, torcidos o han perdido filo, y me apena mucho botarlos a la basura, pero tampoco puedo seguir utilizándolos por su estado.
And now the main reason I couldn't put off this renovation date any longer, the pins. My small pins have seen years and years of projects and work, of which perhaps half the original amount in the box will have survived; they are rusty, bent or have lost their sharpness, and I am very sorry to throw them away, but I can no longer use them because of their condition.
Compré 12 ruedas de alfileres nuevos, y los descargue todos en una cajita nueva de plástico (también guarde allí una pequeña bolsita, de esas que contienen pepitas que absorben la humedad, espero que eso ayude a que no se oxiden). Es muy satisfactorio ver todos esos alfileres nuevos y ya no tener que buscar entre muchos dañados alguno que sirva.
I bought 12 new pin wheels, and unloaded them all into a new plastic box (I also kept a small baggie in there, one of those that contain nuggets that absorb moisture, I hope that will help keep them from rusting). It is very satisfying to see all those new pins and no longer have to search through the many damaged ones to find one that works.
Como dato de interés para que puedan comparar los precios en sus ciudades o países, el total de todo lo que vez en las fotos fue 15$ exactos. ¡Creo que la cuenta salió bastante bien!, considerando que las agujas SINGER son originales y especiales para telas elásticas, y los hilos, cada carrete costo 0.30$ (lo que refleja la factura es el costo en Bolívares Venezolanos, ese día el valor de 1$ era 35.58 Bs).
As an interesting fact so that you can compare prices in your cities or countries, the total of everything you see in the pictures was $15 exactly. I think the bill came out pretty good, considering that the SINGER needles are original and special for elastic fabrics, and the threads, each spool cost $0.30 (what the invoice reflects is the cost in Venezuelan Bolivars, that day the value of 1$ was 35.58 Bs).
✦ The kittens are learning to respect the sewing table and work desk. They like to sleep on the fabrics of the project in progress or run over the sewing machine ✦
✦ This week I have let them sleep in my bed as much as they want because I realized that they only want company, they don't want to stay alone in the living room, and I am too ashamed to take them out of the room ✦
¡Muéstrame en los comentarios una foto de tus "indispensables" a la hora de coser! 📸 💕 Me encantaría ver lo similares o diferentes que somos, o también puedes compartir una foto de cómo se ve actualmente tu costurero; yo debo limpiar y organizar el mío, aunque presiento que deberé comprar uno nuevo para que todo quepa junto (tengo varios carretes grandes y mis tijeras de costura se pasean de gaveta en gaveta).

Estos no son todos "mis indispensables" pero sí lo que pude renovar esta semana. Cuando regresé a casa la luz estaba muy bonita y no me resistí a tomarle fotos; todavía me faltan algunas cosas mas, pero la tienda estaba a reventar de personas y apenas podía caminar entre los pasillos. Espero volver antes de Navidad por mas cosas bonitas y útiles, sé que 2024 será un gran año y quiero recibir el Año Nuevo con todo lo que necesito sin falta 🙏 ❤️🩹
These are not all my "must-haves" but what I was able to renew this week. When I got back home the light was very pretty and I couldn't resist taking pictures; I still have a few more things missing, but the store was bursting with people and I could barely walk between the aisles. I hope to come back before Christmas for more nice and useful things, I know 2024 will be a great year and I want to welcome the New Year with everything I need without fail 🙏 ❤️🩹

Hola @tesmoforia, definitivamente hay herramientas que son necesarias al momento de hacer un proyecto de costura, el saca costuras es muy importante para mí, lo considero el gran aliado cuando te queda mal la costura je, je; los alfileres son también muy útiles y los hay de varios diseños y tamaños; las agujas punta de bola son excelentes; una amiga me las recomendó, tengo varios meses usándolas y se trabaja muy cómodo con ellas, en especial las tela delicadas y delgadas.

¡Hola Belkys! Me alegra mucho leer que también te ha ido bien con las agujas punta de bola, yo sufri mucho tratando de coser un leotargo :( y resulta que no era el ajuste de la máquina o que yo fuera boba, es que estaba usando agujas regulares jajaja never again! óAó
I always love to stuck up the sewing supplies:) ...knowing you will use those pins for just as many projects as you did the old ones, not yet knowing what it will be!!
