If You Can't Stand The Heat Get Out Of The Kitchen
Today I had planned to do some engine work on my 1982 Glendale motorhome (with a Ford 351 Windsor engine), that I am restoring. But quickly changed my plan when I saw the weather forecast! The afternoon felt like 46 degrees Celsius/ 115 degrees Fahrenheit.
I decided to just paint the cylinder heads. Some nice and easy work! Not only for the change in athletics, but as part of my plan to tackle rust. This is a phone pic of what it looked like before (since this pic was taken, the wiring has been cleaned up, a new distributor was installed, and the radiator/heater lines have been replaced).
While sweating buckets lol. I pulled the heads, cleaned them and got painting. As you can see they were quite dirty and had a lot of rust showing through the old paint.
After two coats of paint, they were ready to re install.
Not the prettiest, but will help with controlling the rust! For rust control on the rest of the engine, I will be using grease and wd40. That won't come until the rest of the work is finished though.
My next project will be replacing the exhaust manifold (while cleaning it with wd40 I found a big crack that was hidden by the rust. This crack would lead to exhaust fumes in the cab, decreased performance and if left long enough. A blown head gasket. All of which I can do without having to deal with lol. Then replacing the timing chain/gears and the harmonic balancer.
This has been a very long but rewarding project that is going to lead into an amazing adventure! The family and I will be going full time in it, boondocking across the whole country! Checking out as many cool things as we can. So it is essential that everything is set up as much as possible.
Looks like a heavy machine and requires some focus and effort. The heat is bothering us here in Pakistan as well. Take care my friend and have fun with the engine work.
Thanks!!
