Exploring a 126 Year Old Brick Tunnel

(Edited)

For nearly 8 years, a friend and I have wanted to explore this tunnel. A circular red brick storm drain that was built by hand in 1923.

The tunnel runs under the core of downtown Hamilton Ont. With only two manholes in the 2km's of tunnel for access points. One manhole is in the middle of a very busy street and the second is on a sidewalk. Right in front of the doors for a mall and a bank. This is why we have been waiting so long! But I finally mapped out a connecting tunnel that would lead us to it. So down we went!

After a 20 minute walk through an arched cement tunnel, the red brick appeared!

A junction made of brick. There are two red brick tunnels! The one on the right is only 4 foot tall and the one on the right is 6 foot tall. Which made it an easy decision on which way to go lol.

The has sections of heavy calcification and others without. Making it all around incredible!

We reached the end and could not believe it! Not only that we were able to explore it, but despite being 126 years old. This tunnel is structurally sound and fully functional. That saying they don't make them like they used to, sure is true!

The photos you took of this impressive tunnel are amazing, not to mention your courage as explorers. Greetings, @terrywayne.

Ok but no Guide or something? Didn‘t you worry that the tunnel might have instable passages or like other hazards like rats or something?
