Abandoned Middle School

Built in the 1970s, students from grades 6,7, and 8 attended this school until 2017, when it was closed by the city and was considered to be surplus. After a developer bought the property I was able to explore it and get some pretty good photos of it. Unfortunately My camera battery died so I wasn't able to get exterior photos of the school. At the time I thought no big deal, I can just come back. But when I did less than a week later, it had already been demolished.

Here is an arial view from maps.

Personally I am no fan of public education and often joke about it being a prison for the mind, well this school really encapsulated that! Long hallways with "pod" structures surrounded by hexagon shaped classrooms. Literally a prison design!

Awesome!
Love too see that schools are so different compared to germany.

Maybe you were the last one to take photos of this. That‘s kinda cool

What great pictures and the history of the place! A pity it has been demolished. And it's unbelievable the resemblance it has to a prison, education should never look like that. I send you greetings, have a nice weekend.

Is that...an ironing board? (13th picture down) Seems like an odd thing to have in a bathroom...

My middle school also had a "pod" structure, but it was 4 classrooms around a central workroom. I never really thought about it as being a prisonlike architecture (though let's face it, I haven't seen the inside of a prison even now, so there's zero chance I would've made that association back then), but I guess it is, at least to some extent.

This hexagonal version gives more visual interest for the mind to ponder, with its dearth of 90-degree angles, but that's about all it seems to have going for it.

Thank you for sharing!

I think the ironing board was in a home economics class

Ahh, that makes more sense. The sinks made me think it was a bathroom, but those would be right at home in a home ec room as well. Thank you for clearing that up!
