Abandoned 80 Year Old Stone Pathway/Viewing Platform
Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton Ont. is a beautiful location that sits on the top of the Niagara escarpment with a great view of the city. With multiple viewing spots, trails and a flower garden. The best pathway and viewing platform was used for decades, until it was closed in the early 2000s. Since then it has been left abandoned and being reclaimed by the elements, while the city has poured millions of dollars into the rest of the park.
In the flower garden section of the park, there are two pathways on the west facing side. On the left a trail that has a rock wall on one side and tress/brush on the other. This trail has no unobstructed view of the city. On the right side is the now abandoned pathway that offers the best view and usually has a large fence blocking access (it was pushed aside when I visited).
This is the view on the trail and if it had been cared for, it would be the view the whole time you walk on it.
At the end of the viewing area is a beautiful stone staircase that has fallen into total disrepair.
I can only imagine how great of a spot this would be if it hadn't been left to decay! It truly blows my mind that the city is doing major work on the rest of the park, but is leaving the best feature of it like this.
