Fire And Ice

After a couple weeks of freezing temperatures and on a night that was -30 degrees Celsius. I ventured down to a storm drain in the west end of Hamilton Ont.

The plan? To see if a frozen underground "waterfall" had formed! This is a rare find that I made a couple of years ago, but sometimes does not freeze enough. But as soon as I got inside the tunnel, I knew it would be! I was walking on solid ice and saw a drain that was frozen.

Then I spotted the "waterfall". It is a metal grate for water run off into the tunnel, that freezes into a pretty solid ice formation. That looks almost identical to frozen waterfalls in the area.

After checking it out, it was time to break out the lights for light painting.

This did not last past the test shots though lol. The cold drained the battery of my main light! A full charge to dead in under 10 minutes.

So I started to play with sparklers and was able to get one shot with a light tube before it's battery drained lol.

Lights not working, and not sure what to do with sparklers. I decided to play with steel wool instead!

After these few shots, I was left with no choice but to pack it up. I was on my last light and did not really want to be stuck in there with no light sources.

Awesome pictures! The place helps a lot, it's mysterious and better than a studio for that! 😉
