Exploring Iran: The Land of Eternal Persia - [ 🇬🇧 - 🇫🇷 - 🇪🇸 ]
🇬🇧 Iran: Between Mountains, History, Bazaars and Hospitality

🇬🇧 In December 2006, I finally decided to go and discover Iran. This country had sparked my curiosity since the 1990s, when, during a mission in Abidjan, I had become friends with a couple of Iranians exiled since the revolution. The country's recent history had always fascinated me, the landscapes they described enchanted me, and the culture they introduced me to within their family and friends awakened in me a deep desire to know it better. Even though most people strongly advised me against the trip, it did not dampen my enthusiasm in the least, especially since I had crossed Turkey the previous year in my van and had found the people there extraordinarily kind. I thought I would find the same sense of hospitality in Iran: I was not disappointed. I lack the space to speak of all the experiences I had, so I must make choices.

🇬🇧 Isfahan: “Half of the World”
Isfahan immediately captivated me. In the heart of the city lies the majestic Naqsh-e Jahan Square, one of the largest in the world — a true jewel of Persian architecture. Surrounded by turquoise-domed mosques, elegant palaces, and bustling bazaars, it breathes harmony and beauty. At sunset, the light glides over the ceramic tiles and makes the minarets shimmer: a spectacle of almost unreal serenity. Sitting by the edge of the pool, I watched families stroll and tea sellers chat, unable to take my eyes off the dome of the women’s mosque, which I found wonderful despite my ignorance of architecture.
🇫🇷 Ispahan : "La moitié du monde"
Ispahan m’a immédiatement envoûté.

🇬🇧 Persepolis/Shiraz
Shiraz, the city of poets and gardens, fills the air with the scent of roses and memories. Beneath its cypresses and domes, one understands why Hafez and Saadi found eternal inspiration there. A few dozen kilometers from Shiraz, the majestic ruins of the ancient Achaemenid capital evoke the splendor of a vanished empire. Walking among the slender columns and finely carved bas-reliefs, one can still imagine the royal processions and the offerings brought from the four corners of the known world.

🇬🇧 Tehran
It is a vast city built at the foot of a mountain and extending up its northern slopes. At the bottom lies the bazaar and the popular districts; the higher you go, the more you enter the residential areas. Hosted by the principal of the French high school, we went hiking directly from the house. We didn’t reach the top, but one can climb to about 4,000 meters by magnificent mountain paths. It was an opportunity to meet people in a different context. The great majority speak English, which makes contact easy.

🇬🇧 Hospitality in Iran is something for which words fail me. I could fill pages with anecdotes about encounters and the generosity I experienced...
