Cape Peninsula Scenic Drive in South Africa - [ 🇬🇧 - 🇫🇷 - 🇪🇸 ]
🇬🇧 Cape Peninsula Coastal Journey
Voyage côtier sur la péninsule du Cap 🇫🇷
🇪🇸 Viaje costero por la península del Cabo

🇬🇧 A day around the Cape Peninsula is one of those must-do itineraries that alone captures the full diversity of South African landscapes. The journey often begins in Camps Bay, with its white sandy beach and cafés facing the ocean. From the very first kilometres, the road follows the Atlantic coastline, offering spectacular views of waves crashing against the base of the cliffs. Very quickly, you reach one of the most beautiful roads in the country, Chapman’s Peak Drive. Carved into the mountainside, it winds above the ocean with breathtaking panoramas at every turn. Between sky, sea and rock, the sense of freedom is absolute. Several viewpoints allow you to stop, breathe in the sea air and take in the scenery. The road is tolled, but the price is very reasonable.

🇬🇧 The road then leads to the southern tip of the peninsula and the entrance to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, located within Table Mountain National Park. You pass through charming seaside villages where life unfolds peacefully. Further south, the landscape becomes even wilder. Cliffs plunge into the ocean, fynbos vegetation covers the hills, and you may spot ostriches or baboons along the way. A walk up to the Cape Point Lighthouse allows you to admire the meeting of the oceans in a grandiose setting, often swept by the wind. The park is a must, although unfortunately the entrance is quite expensive for foreign visitors.

🇬🇧 Heading back up along the eastern coast of the peninsula, the atmosphere changes completely. You reach quieter beaches along False Bay. A stop at Boulders Beach Penguin Colony is almost essential to observe the famous African penguins moving among the rocks or lounging on the sand. In my opinion, the colony is less beautiful than the one at Stony Point, but it is a good option for those with less time. The road then continues towards Kalk Bay, a charming fishing harbour. You can stop there for a coffee, browse the shops or watch the seals near the harbour. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, between sea and mountains. Further on, Muizenberg marks another stage with its long beach and its famous colourful beach huts. It is a well-known surfing spot, but also a pleasant place to end the day watching the sun set over the bay.

🇬🇧 This tour of the Cape Peninsula is a succession of contrasts. In just a few hours, you move from the Atlantic Ocean to the calmer waters of False Bay, from dramatic cliffs to peaceful beaches, from wild landscapes to lively villages. An intense day, rich in discoveries, that perfectly captures the beauty of the Cape region.

Absolutely gorgeous - thanks for sharing. I always feel this part of south africa is like where I live in southern Australia. Dramatic landscapes, animals such as seals, big ocean. The only thing that bothers me is sharks!
I am surfer so I agree with you for the sharks ! Thank you for the message.
Oh you are? That's cool! Me too. We are lucky down where we are in Australia - we haven't had an attack down here ever, though a lot of Australia sees a lot of them, especially the bull sharks. I was chatting to someone the other day - I can't recall if it was Hive or in real life - and they said when they were 12, they went swimming with a mate and his Dad in South Africa and his dad just disappeared under the water and they never saw him again..
That's right there are quiet a lot of shark attack here. The second problem is the cold water, 13 degrés. I am just in holiday I normaly surf in Spain.
Oh nice, I surfed down in Galicia year before last but had to shoot home fast as Dad was dying - but it was freeeezing down there! It's cold down here in Victoria, well, not in the summer (right now it's 19 degree temps so it's perfect) - in the winter it'll get to 13 though... more 15...
We are happy that they made good wet suit now !!!!😂 In winter I surf in the south of Spain, the min is 16, sometimes in Marrocco.
I surfed Imsouane two years ago! There was a big swell. I found it sooo busy compared to where I live, and it's got more crowded now!
That is the problem, most of the spots are fully booked now, but Marrocco if you have your own car you can find places.
