From Admirals to Painted Ladies
Hello Hello Hivians and Hivers
Every so often in life we get to combine things and make a 4 in 1!
Today and this post is one such occasion.
Over this summer I had the pleasure to photograph four butterflies, and now I have the opportunity to showcase all four in place.
This is as much for me as anyone else lol!
So let's this show on the road!
The image below shows a Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) perched on a butterfly bush (Buddleja sp.).

When I think of a butterfly, it is the Red Admiral that immediately springs to mind.
I like this pose as not only was he perched atop a butterfly plant, but we get to see part of his underwings which are much different to the top surface that we normally see.

Next up was a shot I took a couple of months before and it shows a green-veined white butterfly (Pieris napi) perched on a lavender plant.
I was umming and aahing over whether to have this as the first photograph.
These are four pictures that represent wings..

The third image I captured coming out of a wooeded walk and appropriately the image shows a Speckled Wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria). This species is commonly found in woodland areas, gardens, and hedgerows across the UK and Europe.

Lastly we see a Painted Lady butterfly (Vanessa cardui) resting on a rough concrete wall that was shot six minutes before the first butterfly was photographed!
Fun fact is that the Painted Lady is one of the most widespread butterflies in the world, found on every continent except Antarctica.

Painted ladies look beautiful. I can't remember the last time I saw a butterfly, probably because they rarely come to our side, maybe due to the lack of gardens around here. I love your shot.
They are wonderful things to watch and they do good too. I hope you see one soon UcheWucheWoo
Isn't painted lady the name of a pub you wanted me to visit this past summer?
Hehe it's a great name.

The world of butterflies is truly fascinating, and I found myself Googling whether any could survive such extreme cold... It seems there are some that can, as long as there’s some kind of food available in their habitat. But they’re rarely seen.
How wonderful that you made the most of this opportunity to show your four butterflies!
Ah yes it's all about the food. Isn't it great how nature can adapt and have things thrive in even the hardest of conditions!
Thanks Nani, yeah sometimes you just have to grab the bull by the horns and run with it!
Pretty butterflies, that first one is gorgeous!

Yeah the Red Admiral is a stunner and what I think of if I have to think of a butterfly.
I love butterflies! That Admiral is so bright and colorful. ♥
Oh yes the Admiral really is bright and colourful.
I love butterflies! Especially the ones with many colors. Here there are many species all year round. I liked the Red Admiral, although the white one with green veins is also very beautiful. An interesting selection, Ed. A hug with butterfly wings 🦋
They are gorgeous to see and if you see them all year round you are lucky!
A big winged hug Nancy
Butterflies are beautiful. I particularly love photographing them, discovering new species, and delighting in their beautiful colors. Best regards.
They are gorgeous and great to photograph if you see them!
