MONOMAD CHALLENGE : Sony Alpha A9 Portraiture - 6 Photos (En-My)

This is my entry for the daily #monomad challenge hosted and curated by @monochromes.

Hello and greeting everyone here in the community. I hope all of you are doing fine today. We meet again after my super busy week. Today I want to share another black and white portraiture series that I took during a workshop organized by Sony Malaysia. This workshop main intention was to promote the new Sony A9 body with the G - Master lens line up. During this workshop they provided us with three different stations. One station was a board with a lot of electronics component mounted on a board with so much color varieties on each component. This station was designed to put the new camera body the Sony A9 into a test with still photo and using the pixel shift technology.

The second station was a big area where a group of kids from the shaolin temple was gathered. They performed some acrobatic movement with some of their martial arts technique with a single lighting used to illuminate the entire station. This station main purpose was to try the auto focus capabilities of the new Sony camera body the A9.

And the last station was my favorite, it was the portrait station. They set up a station with two continuous lighting. The setup was simple, one light was placed on the back of the model to create a rim lighting around her body from the back. Another light was used as a main light just enough to illuminate on the model face and on her front.

As you guys can see on the above photo, her eyes was the main focus, It was because I am using the 135mm lens. While I am using the lowest 'f' number which is the f 1.8 , at the same time the focal length was 135mm it created a very shallow depth of field area, thus some of her face was blurred. This create a very unique portrait. This was my first time using the lens for a close up shoot like this and I was very amazed on how the final image was taken. The sharpness was very good.

While the model move around and pose for other photographers, I took this angle out of curiosity. I was a bit skeptical on the result, I thought the focus will be out of the model's eyes. I was totally wrong. As you can see here the eye focus nailed the model's eyes. This really made me feel amazed on how good the new Sony camera body and lens focusing capability.

Another example of how shallow the depth of field from the 135mm lens is shown on the third and fourth photo above. A slightly change of direction on the face the eyes that further from the camera lens will starts to be blurry (third photo). As you can see on the fourth photo, the model turn her head to her right and only exposed her left face area. Most of the left face was in focus because of the left eye and the angle of the face was on the same 'plane'. This really made a very unique look for a portrait.

This last two photo was taken while her face positioned straight to the camera lens. As you can see most of her face was in focus. A slightly blurry nose and on her both side of her face. It was because of the 135mm lens compression plus the f1.8 was creating a very shallow depth of field. This last photo was my favorite. A very unique look on a portrait.

And that is all from me today. I hope that you guys enjoy reading my post. Until we meet again on the next post. Stay safe and have a great day everyone.

Saya harap anda semua suka membaca catatan saya. Sehingga berjumpa lagi di post seterusnya. Kekal selamat dan salam sejahtera semua.

No problem nice to have fellow photographer appreciate others work as normal social media like your instagram and twitter stuff no one likes to give credit to anyone its a sad space to be but hive is different its not got that jealous side to it .

Defo i have noticed over the years photographers won't follow you or comment or like your content but they will spy on you and use your ideas 😂 and try to copy your style its a sad industry out there but HIVE is different I have noticed and its a refreshing look in to the industry of photography. I don't even have twitter no more I got rid of it and instagram I don't even post on anymore I just post on hive now .

I am guilty as well from this 🤣🤣. Previously I tried to copy all of the photographer that I really love about their work. But then I realized I need to just go out and take photos just the way I felt. I still post on Instagram sometimes but the likes and comment are mostly none received or very little 😅

Yea we all need to get inspiration from somewhere agreed but I had a photographer once basically copy my logo and also tried to copy my style but was not successful in this 😂 and I just thought how blatant do you want to make it. But the hole social media thing is just full of self and jealousy no-one has anything good to say or don't want to show to others that they like something its a sad platform now so glad HIVE is around as its changed things for me a bit now.
