Wednesday Walk in Victory Park

Wednesday Walk in Victory Park

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

Any questions about the challenge read the guide at the Bottom of the post ;)

A week or so ago I was a happy camper, feeling good and able to get out for photo walks again and glad I was able to share recent walks each week, but alas the smoke from the wild fires in Canada made there way here and the air quality was up in the unhealthy for sensitive groups levels or higher for most of the last week, and with my health issues after havign had TB in 2007 as much as I hated it I had to be sensible and stay indoors for the most part and hence I was planning sharing an older walk this week and even had the post prepared.

But as it happens the air quality levels dropped down to good or moderate levels all be it we had a bit of rain which helped with that but also hindered me getting out for walks, but yesterday the weather cooperated for a while and I managed to get out for a walk which I am sharing today.

THis walk takes place in a park called Victory Park on the maps, but seems it is known as the Poor Farm mostly but local residents here

I have shared a walk here before, but at the time I said I would revisit it, as it was very dry and barren at the time

Its a lovely little park with a pond and my walk I share is around the pond which is behind the trees in this first photo

I was intrigued how it got the name of the Poor Farm and looked it up and found

The Poor Farm dates back to 1828, when the then-town of New Bedford purchased 75 acres on Clarks Point for $4,700. In the coming years, the farm was developed into a complex including a poorhouse, a hospital for sick seamen, a workhouse for criminals who committed minor offenses and later a “pest house,” or hospital for people with contagious diseases.

I think all of the buildings from that period of its history are gone and there is just a warming house beside the pond now

Looking the other way from the trees is this field

and then I followed this path everything was so green and lush after the rain

WW victory park-3.jpg

and then turned onto this path alongside the pond, and camp across this tent clearly someone was camping there I quietly sneaked past it

WW victory park-4.jpg

and continued along this path, I could hear many birds chirping

WW victory park-5.jpg

at a couple of spots along this path one could see the pond through gaps in the trees

and another view this time you can see the warming house by the pond

and that pretty much finishes this part of the walk, but I kept walking after that, I got out the Monopod I recently bought and decided to try it out in a couple of spots in the hope of catching some shots of birds which at this spot I didn't have much luck, but I did go somewhere else afterwards and tried again with a little success.

I had bene thinking about getting a monopod for quite while and now that I have it I must say especially for birding with my big heavy lens I wish I had got it sooner, it takes a lot of the weight of the lens when your standing patiently waiting for a bird to appear

Weekly giveaway of shares

This week I am sending to the following who joined Wednesday Walk, for this week I did a random draw and the following each received some Hive @desiredlady, @jayna, @zehn34 @steampunkkaja @manorvillemike and @sagesigma

And @elizacheng will send to @sagesigma

As @elizacheng and I collaborated with our Wednesday Walk and Make me Smile Challenges

And one person is randomly drawn who joins both challenges to receive one Hive from me and this week it is @TBA

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

Add a bit of a write up about where you walked

Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .

Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

Make me Smile Collaboration

As I mentioned above Wednesday Walk is collaborating with the [Make Me Smile] hosted by @elizacheng,

Here are the rules for her challenge

Your post can be writing, singing, video, poem, drawing, photography etc.... the most important part is your post Make me" smile, Remember, the ME is whoever read/view/listen to your post and this includes YOURSELF.
b. Your content must be ORIGINAL CONTENT
c. Please include at least 50 Words in your post

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

That is very nice! This looks like a cool little park. So much history there too. Very interesting! I'd guess the person in the tent is probably homeless based on the shopping cart, but then again, what do I know...

yes thats the assumption I made about it being a homeless person, I felt sorry for them and guessed they were sleeping so very quietly went around their tent

It's really nice to listen the chirping of bird's during walk in nature 😀

Oh wow, these pictures look magical! Especially that mirror reflection in the water. That tent gives me more of the feeling of someone living there as I'm used to seeing homeless people with shopping carts to carry around their stuff..

Let's hope it's not the case here!

Yeah best to leave them be, it's probably not the most proud thing they wish to share with strangers.

Hopefully, see you next week. I'm trying to implement Wednesday Walks into my content schedule as I have plenty walks to share, lol.

Have a great day!

This was a good, relaxing walk JJ, although that could have been unpleasant, sneaking past someone's tent.
No doubt it had no business being there, but on the other hand, how apropos, for Homeless people to be camping on the Poor Farm?

Relaxing walk in the green, having trees close to clean the air, light rain to wash some dirt away.

Birds singing all around one steps into a world of difference no matter the name of the park, lovely photography!

Glad you could go out for a walk yesterday.
Such an interesting area. Now all lush and green, beautiful.
Hahaha that tent took over the entire path.

Great to hear the monopod helps when standing still with your big lenses. I haven’t tried them yet, but if I get a bigger lens I will think about it.
Thanks for sharing such lovely photographs and information about the area and the monopod.
Have a wonderful Wednesday @tattoodjay 👋🏻😊

Are there no wildfires burning down there? Definitely are up here as there are every year just not normally this early in the season.

Plenty of walking going on up here as the forests sre pushing on the paths. So good.

Rain has returned and will hopefully ease the fires. Wouldnt want to send too much smoke down there to get trapped in the urban smog domes! ;)

I dont think there are any near here at the moment, but I do see no fire warnings due to the dryness, and hope we do not get any

I hope the ones there are contained soon, and wow those photos are gorgeous

Some nice images there looks like a great place to go for a walk! Currently experiencing some nice sunny days in the UK, almost too hot to go for walks! Been heading out early morning to try to avoid the heat with the dog. Was a very foggy morning this morning, wish I'd grabbed some photos, the ships had to smash their fog horns on the passing, not that I could see any of them!

thanks, I try to go out earlier inthe day especially in summer and avoid the heat

I know many criticize the dull weather in the UK, but i must say I was perhaps lucky but on all my visits there i had lovely weather

Hello dear friend @tattoodjay good day
I am very sorry for what you have had to go through because of the forest fires, the good thing is that the weather has improved and the air is easier to breathe.
This is a really beautiful place for a hike and amazing for camping, I love these nature trails and the beautiful scenery
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have taught us this walking experience
have a nice day

Lovely #wednesdaywalk. The warming house looks really nice with the green grass along the shore of the pond. If I was still in California, I would say that tent was a homeless encampment. The shopping cart and walker look suspicious... the kind of thing people steal to haul their stuff. But hey if someone with mobility problems is out there camping, good on them 👍

In Greece, a tent in the park with a supermarket trolley right outside usually means a homeless person is living there. I hope it means something different there!

It looks like a lovely park though!

And nice shots too :)
