Wednesday Walk an early morning visit to Neds Point

Wednesday Walk an early morning visit to Neds Point

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge
Any questions about the challenge read the guide at the Bottom of the post ;)

Well with this post I think I have done a post every day for the last week, which in the past was nothing new, but first time i have done this for a while, so I guess I could say I am back :)

I for a variety of reasons only got out for one walk in the past week, but hey I at least got out for one and have a walk to share today :)

The spot I visited was Neds Point in Mattapoisett, a nice spot to catch the sunrise with the added bonus of there being a lighthouse there

So let me start with a coupld of shots of the lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1838 at a cost of approximately $5,000, can you imagine how much iot would cost now?
it was named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer. Under the supervision of a local builder, Leonard Hammond, the lighthouse was constructed with a birdcage-style lantern similar to Bird Island Light found in Marion, Massachusetts. The stone used for the lighthouse was all locally sourced, with most of it originating from nearby beaches. Inside, there are 32 granite steps that are cantilevered to the outside wall without the use of mortar. The original lantern used 11 whale oil lamps, each with its own parabolic reflector. The lamps and reflectors were replaced by a fifth order Fresnel lens in 1857, along with a change to an octagonal lantern. The Great Blizzard of 1888 significantly damaged the keeper's stone house, resulting in it being demolished and the building of a wooden replacement.

Following the lighthouse's automation in 1923, the keeper's house became unnecessary. The original stone keeper's house was loaded on a barge and taken to Wing's Neck Light in Bourne, Massachusetts. The lighthouse was deactivated from 1952, but remained under control of the US Coast Guard. Following modernization in 1961, the lighthouse was reactivated in 1961 with its current 6-second isophase.[2] The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and approved in 1988

another reason I like this spot is it has a nice grene area which in between I generally wwalk around a few times to get my steps in

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

Add a bit of a write up about where you walked

Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .

Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Wow, that is a lot of boats out in the harbor. This is a cool lighthouse I got some shots of a lighthouse myself this past weekend. I probably won't share them for a bit yet. It's too bad that they moved away the keepers house. I guess when you automate things it isn't really necessary though!

Once is once a walk and then you will recover and there will be many more, you will see, and I am glad to have seen you in the publications you would say, encouragement is very important. Lighthouses fascinate me, thank you for these beautiful pictures!🤗

That is a nice pretty and green area, I can see why you like it. Interesting light house history, now they're all relics of the past thanks to GPS...

That last picture came out really nicely! A perfect balance of rocks, water, clouds and the sunrise. I like that one!

Glad your back. Just take it easy, slow and steady. Those are some wonderful shots. My wife used to collect lighthouses as a hobby. She ended up selling or giving most of them away. Again, glad to see ya back and posting regularly.

thanks I too love lighthouses
I am taking it slowly, only going out with my smaller lenses, I tried a medium size one the other day when I visited the zoo, but realised im not ready for that yet so cut the walk short

Well at least you recognized your limits. That is good you didn’t push yourself too much. Best wishes for continued healing.
