Saturday - a few more cool properties on or around Hawthorne street New Bedford MA

a few more cool properties on or around Hawthorne Street, New Bedford MA

Good morning, and have a good weekend.

Today I will share a few photos from a walk I took down Hawthorn Street, here in New Bedford.

As I wrote that and was prompted by a comment I just replied to, I got intrigued about the origin of the name of Hawthorn and looked it up

Hawthorn Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts, is part of the historic West End and County Street neighborhood, where thoroughfares were traditionally named after prominent local whaling merchants, land-owning families, or botanical and topographical themes common in 19th-century New England urban planning.
And Hawthorn comes from the botanical side, deriving from the Old English haegporn, referring to the thorny hawthorn shrub traditionally used for English country hedges and property boundaries.

And the other thing that came to mind is to relate to how I often walk these streets a little while after sunrise, for better light to capture these properties, which I had not done for quite a while, and I had to adjust my way of taking photos, shooting mostly before nd during sunrise. I mostly used a tripod and often shot three shots at different exposures for a High Dynamic range result.

Shooting handheld and in different light got me back into thinking more of the settings as I walked .

Some houses are wide open to view, but others have many trees, and in tis case a fence making capturing there beauty a challenge, I took this looking in the driveway, of course I could have got a better view if I walked in the driveway, but thats not something that I think is a good idea especially early morning

This one I may well have seen on another walk and shared, but not sure; it's a cool Queen Anne and Eastlake Victorian architecture

The building shown is Orchard Street Manor, a historic three-story Georgian Revival home located at 139 Orchard Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts
Built in 1845–1846 for whaling captain Benjamin Clark and his family.
It is a three-story Georgian Revival / Greek Revival-influenced property.

Looking at those old estates and the cool architecture reminds me of movies from the 80s. I should walk among some of the central streets along the water here and share some shots like these. How do you learn about the history of them?

Great photos 👍 time of day is such a determining factor in photography. We were just talking yesterday we need to take a few afternoon walks to capture some specific fall colors pictures that only work in the afternoon light. It is especially a factor up here in the North where the angle of the sun changes so much going into winter.

Yes indeed, and funny you should say that I said the same to my wife yesterday about heading out during the day for some fall photos, I just need to feel a bit better and do that
