Neds Point Light

Neds Point Light

Good Morning and have a great day
today I will share a few shots of Neds Point Light in Mattapoisett MA, about a 20 Minute drive from where I live, and a spot i enjoy visiting now and again for my sinrise walks on nice days, its not the best spot I go to for gettign steps in, as its not a big area and I walk loops around the green area, but hey its better than what I am doing now walking back and forth in the sunroom over winter :)

Speaking of walking, I am mixing it up now, that I have the exercyle, I generally walk for 30 minutes then ride for 10 or so minutes, and as my legs and knees get used to the exercise bike I will build up the time I spend on there.

A Little History about the Lighthouse with a Lot of Character
Established in 1838, this 39-foot tower was named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer who originally owned the land. While many lighthouses have grand origins, Ned’s Point had a bit of a rocky start—literally! The local builder was famously accused of "shoddy workmanship," and an inspector once even fell through a temporary floor during a surprise visit.
Despite its early controversies, the tower has endured for nearly two centuries. It was built using locally sourced stone and beach rocks, and it features a architectural marvel inside: a cantilevered granite stairway with 32 steps embedded directly into the wall without any mortar.
The Traveling Keeper’s House
Ever heard of a house that went for a boat ride? In 1923, after the light was automated, the original wooden keeper's house was no longer needed. Instead of tearing it down, they loaded it onto a barge and floated it across the bay to Wing's Neck Light in Bourne, where it still stands today.

Some fun facts

It flashes white for six seconds (3 seconds on, 3 seconds off) and is visible for 16 miles.
Former President John Quincy Adams was one of the key figures who helped convince Congress to fund its construction

A shot of it with some nice sunrise glow on the horizon

Good day, Mr. @tattoodjay, how are you?

I love lighthouses, this one is truly beautiful. We have one in my city and I really enjoy visiting it.

You're doing a great job exercising when you're not going for walks.

What beautiful photos!
