Market Friday ok I concede I am a gadget geek
A post for Market Friday hosted by @dswigle, if you haven't followed her yet you should she is one of the kindest and most supportive people here on Hive, a comment from her is like a ray of sunshine on your page.
This is the one tag and challenge that I always make a point of joining, and also look through the posts of others that join the challenge and seeing markets from all around the world.
For this weeks post, I gave into my gadget geek side and got a couple of new gadgets, well devices I guess I would call them.
But first a photo, I popped out for an hour Wednesday afternoon, to pick up a couple of things from a store and stopped for a quick walk around the pond at Buttonwood Park, still some nice warm colors out there

And what did I get, well I have resisted upgrading my phone and watch for a few years, well three years maybe which is a long time for me, so i picked up the new Iphone 14 Pro, and Ultra Watch, I did think about switching back to Samsung as they have good devices on a Magnetic charging stand I also bought.
Have spent sometime setting up the phone and watch, the iPhone itself isnt a huge upgrade from the previous model, but the Ultra watch is the first big change to the apple watch for years, so I will talk more about that

The Ultra is bigger than previous models with a 49mm Screen, previous models were 41, 44 or 45mm
A new feature only on the Ultra is this orange button called the action button, which can be programmed to open workouts, Dive, track hikes and other things but also can be used to run shortcuts and thats something I see myself doing with it.
I have never played with shortcuts on the iPhone so that will be a learning curve for me, my Plan is to assign the button to different things, possibly dependent on time of day, but have no clue how to do that yet
To explain what I am thinking of, I would want that button to turn on the flashlight feature ( which is a lot brighter on this watch) at night if I am home, so if I get up in the dark I can click the button and see where I am going without turning on the house lights.
but if I am out walking somewhere I will want it to instead open a walking goal on my watch, and i believe I can use shortcuts to have that setup as the watch will know both the time and whether i am at home or out and about.
I have other ideas but thats my initial goal wish me luck working it out LOL

IT has longer battery life they say 36 hours I believe, but from my use so far, i went two days without charging it and I was using it a lot playing around with it and setting it up

It is bigger than previous models but having worn it for a couple of days I dont find that an issue at all, is rugged with a Titanium Body a Sapphire crystal screen is capable to be used as a diving watch down to 100M, not something i foresee myself doing.
Same say its more a watch for adventure seekers and they may be right but so far I am very happy with it
you can have multiple watch faces on the watch, I have setup 5 that meet my current needs, and have three set to come up automatically by time of day.

OK enough on the Watch, back to the phone to finish off this post, one upgrade it has is a 48MP camera, and even though I know I wont use it much as I prefer shooting photos for my camera I decided to check it out with a few shots on my walk the other day and all the photos in this post were taken using the phone

By default the camera is set to 12MP mode, you have to change a setting to enable RAW mode and the 48MP, these photos were mostly at 12, but the first one at least was set to 48MP, I also didn't send these to my PC, I just used the phone camera editing tool, and didn't do many adjustments

It has an impressive zoom, this shot of the building which was across the pond was at 15 times zoom, and isnt to bad at all

All in all not to bad at all for catching photos, but i know I wont use it much as I much prefer getting out with my big camera, but it will be handy to have with me if I am ever somewhere without my camera bag, and know I can get a reasonable shot with my phone.
Also I know if I use one of the camera apps on my phone and edit them even in lightroom on the phone the images would be even better

I'm yet to own even the lowest of the iPhone 😂 I'll get there someday haha.
It's cool that the watch can be set that way, I'm sure it gives alarm for anything you may set it for.

Am not a big fan of the iPhone either even though I use one lol. But for some reasons I like the apple watch very much, I've never used one but I might just go for one.
The iPhone 14 pro takes decent picture, the noise is not too much, I still think some adjustments needs to be done when taking pictures of plants. For some reasons it struggles to capture important parts of the plant.
You made an honest review and I liked it very much.
I have to admit it's probably the Apple Watch that keeps me with Apple devices

Haha, I been a long standing Samsung fan all my life. This past few years I was tempted a lot to go for the active but then I decided to go and buy an iPhone.
Am weighing my options to see if I should switch back and then I will go for the watch active🤔. Well with time let’s see.

Very cool. I haven't been in a Best Buy in forever. We used to have a couple close to us, but they shut them both down I think. I guess more people were buying stuff online and they couldn't justify it. We have a Costco down the road and that is where I go for most of my electronics if I don't buy them online. Congrats on the upgrades! It's always exciting to get new toys!
Ohh yeah I am having fun setting them up had not played around with Apple shortcuts but now seeing how much they can do I have some ideas and am struggling to learn how to do them
That is really cool. I hope you get it figured out. If you have to just take a break and set it aside for a bit. That tends to help me.

Well a few days ago I had a years old phone and watch lol
Fun #marketfriday. Hard to avoid BestBuy when you are out and about. I still like seeing and touching gadgets even if you buy them online. Nice shots with the new phone. The camera is pretty good and I always debate photo size/quality in my head lol I usually view hive on a good monitor at home but I think many (most?) people browse it on their phone. If you are on your phone, the iPhone pictures are gonna look great.
Yeah I love visiting bestbuy to see what's there get the feel for things sometimes buy there other times online
Pretty impressed with the phone but know I won't use the camera much prefer using my camera

Modern technology, phones and watches are miniature computers with slightly different software, always interesting to learn.
For me a good desk top computer !LOLZ have not used a watch in 14 years, phone with weather app, Telegram, info on rolling black out app and phone calls.

The way some of these phones are upgrading their cameras every year, it's just astounding that how easy is to just point and shoot, yet still be able to capture some amazing shots. I've always had a thing for photography, but after I got the Pixel 6, I just find myself taking out my phone for every picturesque scene I come across.
I was eyeing the newer iPhones for a while, but the Pixel just stood out in every way, on top of that we have the absurd pricing of iPhones in our country, which make it a big no for me. Yet, their ecosystem is still one of a kind, so people don't mind paying the premium, and I get that. In terms of photography they've been quite consistent as well, starting from the iPhone X series, and it just keeps on getting better.
How has the phone been performing so far in terms of user experience? And which color did you go for? The purple one is getting a lot of love, but the Jet Black color is the best in my eyes haha.
I was thinking of getting the purple, but everyone i know was getting that so I went for black, and its performing well, a big upgrade from the older one I had,
Funy thing is when I get a new phone I always check out the camera on it, then hardly ever use it as I generally take my camera bag with me most places
Ahh yes, I say black is the perfect choice, you can never go wrong with black. And in terms of performance I think it's a good upgrade for anyone using a device that is 3 years old or older, like the iPhone 11 or something of that sorts. Anything around 2 years old will still run well, and won't make much of difference in terms of performance.
I'm someone who likes to point and shoot, so a good phone with a snappy camera does the job for me. It's been that way since 2011 I think, before that I had a small Sony camera which I used to run around with haha. I think I'm better at mobile photography, compared to handling an actual cameras.

Great new gadgets, for sure some nice upgrades there.
The phone does do a good job with the 45mp, the zoom does look ok and the night time shot too.
They do get better and better nowadays.
Bit like you I still like the camera more to take photos. Ok ok, my iPhone is only an 11 but still. They do get better hehehe

Hi, JJ! @tattoodjay I am so very late. I am so sorry. I had been a little under the weather for a few days and I have to leave town Friday Morning, so... trying to clean up before I leave. I will be gone for ten days, but, I will try to get on when I can as time permits. It is not my own time.
Anyway, congratulations on the upgrade! Woo-hoo! I know the Geek in you will be very happy with it. I hadn't upgraded in a couple of years either! I couldn't believe it. Probably right before COVID, but, then, that is two and a half years already!
Those really cool features you were trying to learn? Apple offers classes, as I am sure you are aware, but, if you are not... they are free and they do it right at the store. They realize there is a learning curve.
I have to agree with you, about the camera. They work pretty well, but, I like my big camera better. :) I paid all that money for it, darn it. It's going to get used. Plus, I just like it.

Hello! Hello! Market Friday is running so late this week, I was under the weather a bit and I will be out of town for about ten days. Last week, I learned about a traditional wedding ceremony that follows Jewish laws and traditions. Interestingly enough, it was not in the post but in the comments between us discussing the post. Interaction. It was written by @tali72 who is a transplant to Israel. I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and if there are solutions to making it better in any way. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.
Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life.
