Market Friday At Buttonwood Park Zoo

Market Friday

A post for Market Friday hosted by @dswigle, if you haven't followed her yet you should she is one of the kindest and most supportive people here on Hive, a comment from her is like a ray of sunshine on your page.
This is the one tag and challenge that I always make a point of joining, and also look through the posts of others that join the challenge and seeing markets from all around the world.

For this weeks post, I am sharing some shots I took at the Buttonwood Park here in New Bedford and as I know As well as Flowers Denise likes horses so I will start the post with this shot of a horse I saw there.

Now what she may not like so much is the coral the horse was in, as you can see it was very dry and bare and I think smaller than a horse really needs.

The zoo is a fairly small one and they have lots squeezed into the area and as such its not a Zoo I really like I feel for the animals when they do not have in my opinion enough or appropriate space for the animals

Now I am sure it meets the requirements zoos have for animals, but I much prefer larger zoos with good open areas for the animals to explore and enjoy.

I saw this cute little Monkey, not sure what type it was

About half an hour from me is the Roger Williamms Zoo in providence Rhode Island, which from what I have seen online looks a bigger and nicer zoo I hope to visit it soon.

One of the elephants at the Zoo it looks quite old to me.

That Toucan is pretty awesome. I have to agree with you. I prefer larger zoos as well. The one in Columbus, OH is huge and it is always a joy to visit. You get a sense that they really do their best to give the animals the best environment possible.

Interesting zoo shots. The St Louis zoo (Marlin Perkins was director in the 60's lol before his Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom days) was an early leader in bigger more nature habitats. But the last time I visited, I was surprised at how small and insufficient they look now. Zoo's have come a long ways I guess 🙂

Thanks and I have heard of Marlin, I think as children zoos look a lot bigger than when we visit them as adults but as well I think bigger and more considerate zoos are becoming more popular

Hello @tattoodjay

I recently wanted to do a clean slate on my Hive account. So I decided to only follow those people who add value to my digital life beyond any potential compensation.

Without a doubt, you are one of them.

His fantastic photographs are not indifferent to me. On the contrary, they invite me to delve into the fascinating world of photography. Of course, without pretending to be a professional, just to have a little more fun, and leave these four parents in the safety of my home.

Thank you my friend in virtuality.

What a huge beak the toucan has. And if he hits the head with this beak?

How curious is the fact that here it is very common to see horses on the street and everywhere, so I was surprised to see that this zoo had a horse enclosure.

Yeah not far from here there are farms with horses, but we seldom see them around this city so maybe that why the zoo has a couple

Great shots at the zoo and I tend to agree with you, the animals require bigger spaces to feel like they are in their natural environment. As long as they feed and treat the animals right then its ok, but horses generally love big open spaces where they can gallop and run around.
Anyways, thank you for sharing and enjoy the weekend ahead :}

It's sad seeing them spend their lives bored and unhappy in small areas :( ...

Hopefully it's a lot better, those small zoos really could do more, even if it's just giving the animals more attention, and encouraging visitors to interact with them.

It is true! The horse was a nice surprise, but, like you, I like their enclosures to be a little more spacious and have some grass for them to graze on, one of their fondest pastimes. I forgot there is a zoo there! I am sure it is a big hit with the children. It is the 12th oldest zoo in the US. I looked it up because I knew it had been there forever and a day. For the locals, I think $7.50 is expensive, out of towners is $10.00 - but everything has gone up, so it probably is a good deal.

I go to the National Zoo in DC as my go to place and it is operated by Smithsonian, so it is free to get in. The catch is if you park there, it is $30 to get a paid parking pass. I take the metro in, then it is free. :) It does a lot of good things, and the conservation work is important, but, I still can't help thinking as you do. It is still locking them up and taking away their freedom.

This was a fun post! :) I love that you take #MarketFriday to the next level. Oh - the monkey is a Callimico goeldii. I get most of them mixed up. Thanks so much for taking us with you today!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

1.Go to any type of market, or anywhere where you pay money for a service. It can be a museum, a movie theatre, or an auction. Be creative!
2.Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? We like to compare prices, otherwise, it is just pictures of a market!
3.Post the pictures! No out-of-focus ones, please! Tell a little bit about the pictures that you post. Having many pictures to scroll through does not make a better post without explanation.
4.Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated) If you don't, then #MarketFriday should be your first tag
5.Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
6 You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
7.#MarketFriday post should be submitted sometime on Friday UTC
8.The post MUST be in English
9.Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it
