Market Friday Ernestina Morrisey

A post for Market Friday hosted by @dswigle, if you haven't followed her yet you should she is one of the kindest and most supportive people here on Hive, a comment from her is like a ray of sunshine on your page.
This is the one tag and challenge that I always make a point of joining, and also look through the posts of others that join the challenge and seeing markets from all around the world.

For this weeks post, Some may see this as stretching the terms of what is a market, but at times when this ship is docked in the port in New Bedford they offer tours of the boat which one must pay for I believe so I am thinking thats close enough for it to be considered a market LOL

As I mentioned on Wednesday my plans for my walk changed and that happened when I saw this ship the Ernestina Morrisey in the port

the schooner ERNESTINA-MORRISSEY, was built in 1894 at the James and Tarr Shipyard for the Gloucester fishing fleet. Under Captain Bob Bartlett she sailed to within 600 miles of the North Pole, and later brought immigrants to the U.S. under the power of sail. Returned to the US in 1982 as a gift from the newly independent Cape Verdean people, she sailed as an educator until 2005.
She is primarily docked in New Bedford I believe but is currently on her way to Texas for a Tall ships event

It was the first time I have seen it here since I moved here, I understand it was away somewhere going under repairs but is ow back in service.

AIt was docked where the lightship Nantucket had been docked for the few years I have been here, and from what I have heard that is where it will be docked moving forward when it is in port.

As you can see in the next shot there were crew members on board, I spoke to one of them and found it was leaving port shortly and heading to Texas for a big sail ship regatta.

When the ship pulled out from the dock I quickly walked around to an end of one of the piers to catch the ship again from that point

And one out of order back when it was in the dock

I subsequently raced back to my car and drove to a couple of other points and got some more shots I have yet to edit, hoping to see it raise its sails and sail away, but I was not so lucky to catch that

Sorry for the late reply. I drove 12 hours down south over 2 days in the weekend. Helping the in- laws tile the floors for them. All hand made terracotta… lots of work. Will catch up soon. Will be away for 2 weeks.
Have a great week!

Wonderful photos for #marketfriday I LOVE sailing and seeing the boats out at sea. Here, I always know Summer is well and truly begun when I see our neighbours old sailboat slip out of it's Winter home in their little boat house and can see it bobbing away anxious to be out to sea.

Happy #marketfriday @tattoodjay I feel bad as I've not been about as much as I like but I've been working like mad on my little old cottage, painting, having plumber in etc...Busy time of the year, but I have to make time for good ole' #hive.

I don't know if it counts as a market lol, but still the photos are very good and you comment the history of this boat and the route it makes is very interesting.

When tall ships go sailing by, pity about not being able to witness with sails hoisted. Awesome visit to see this with great photography.

What a gorgeous ship! a throwback to another era. I've always romanticized about being crew on a ship like this but I suspect I would not hold up very well. Not only to the work but to the isolation of being away from port for long stretches of time.

thanks for your visit, indeed takes us back to an era long ago, so much so I decided this morning to edit a few other shots I took of it in Mono for a future post

I have similar thoughts about working on the crew of such a ship

She's a beauty! You know of my love for these schooners! I have attended the schooner races from Annapolis, Maryland to Virginia Beach, Virginia. They hold them every summer down here, a most popular event. It is a magnificent sight to see them raise the sails! If you are interested in seeing tall ships and schooner races, look up Cape Ann, In MA. There is an annual Labor Day gathering of tall ships there.

You took some sweet shots and I am thinking this may be your summer to capture at least 50 dozen more. The water is so addicting and if you love photography, even more so. I can hear the sea, she is still calling your name.

Your pictures are interesting and so fun to look at. Anyone who loves sea life, boat life, or outdoor life cannot help but love this post. Thank you always for giving #MarketFriday a great treat!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

1.Go to any type of market, or anywhere where you pay money for a service. It can be a museum, a movie theatre, or an auction. Be creative!
2.Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? We like to compare prices, otherwise, it is just pictures of a market!
3.Post the pictures! No out-of-focus ones, please! Tell a little bit about the pictures that you post. Having many pictures to scroll through does not make a better post without explanation.
4.Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated) If you don't, then #MarketFriday should be your first tag
5.Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
6.#MarketFriday post should be submitted sometime on Friday UTC
7.The post MUST be in English
8.Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it

They usually advertise their arrivals back to port as they usually come after or for an event. I am so glad you took a lot of photos. :) I look forward to more of them!
