A walk through the labyrinth of Liteiny Prospekt courtyards

It snowed this morning. I woke up and immediately saw that something had changed: it was as if a glow was coming from the window of the room, the grey autumn landscape was replaced by a clean white carpet. This changed my plans. I was going to wash the windows in the morning and close them tightly for the winter, but washing windows in sub-zero temperatures is hardly a good idea. I think I'll put it off for a few days. It's only the end of October, the snow will soon melt and daytime temperatures will return to more comfortable levels.

Instead of cleaning the windows, I sat down at my computer and started sorting through my summer photos. Almost immediately, I found a folder of photos taken during a walk with my friend @qwerrie. This walk took place in mid-June, but other summer experiences had taken over my attention and these photos remained unpublished.

That day we went for a walk through the courtyards in the historical part of St Petersburg, and found a real labyrinth. Narrow passages between courtyards belonging to different households allowed us to walk for a long time in the back of the block, parallel to the bustling street. The most interesting passage was like a narrow gap between the high walls of buildings, @qwerrie immediately started looking for the best angle to photograph a patch of sky overhead.

I usually prefer a horizontal frame format, but in this situation it was unrealistic to use a horizontal format. Narrow passages between high walls are definitely a vertical format.

It looks as if a part of the wall on the top floor was simply taken down to make a terrace. Of course, this couldn't happen... But how did this balcony come about? No one designs balconies and loggias like this, no architect would have come up with this design.

We were hoping to find some interesting street art, but on this day our catch was very modest. The inscription "Tsoi is alive" is dedicated to the famous Russian rock musician. The shadow curtain on the gate apparently served as a backdrop for some kind of tour or theatre production. Portraits of Joseph Brodsky are placed near the entrance to the studio, which deals with printing on film.

fun to see photographs of the photographer <- exactly! one of our beloved genres, hehe. with years there have been accumulated a precious folder, as a fruit of such joint walks. it is solid, not something ephemera, like !PIZZA - which always disappear in minutes without traces ;)

It is a great subject. Although I myself are rather behind the camera hahaha 🤣
Let’s hope the collection grows more 😉
I know… a shame a !PIZZA disappears so quickly…
Have a great Sunday 👋🏻

We get our first snow in October, quite often. But this year the transition from summer to winter was very abrupt. In September it was very warm, almost like summer, and then the snow and cold came at once. Thank you very much!

I took this photo too, just less wide-angle (with my telephoto). Your captures with Pixel 3 are amazing! and very amuzing, like it a lot. I must share my part now....
