Ski-Week-ish

It is the start of the official "ski week" in our region and by the looks of the sledding slope, people have taken off already to wherever they are going to spend it. As despite the weather being beautiful and sunny, for the hour we spent sledding, we had the hill completely and to ourselves.

Smallsteps is getting a little large to be pulled around in the sled, but she still enjoys it and, it is faster than her walking.

It was only -6 today and with the sun shining bright, it was pretty sweaty work, even in a light jacket. Even my wife was sweaty and she is normally freezing, even in the summer. In the winter though, it is better to be a bit warm than a bit cold. However, this winter has been amazingly warm so far and normally at this time of year, it can be in the -20s, but at the moment, it almost feels like Spring is already here.

While it is ski holiday, both my wife and I are working this week. She has to work because technically she doesn't have a ski holiday yet as she started a month or two too late at her company, almost two years ago. And for me, it is the end of the month and I want to make sure that I get everything in order to pick up my bonuses. However, we are taking a few days off at the end of the week, because my wife has flexi-hours to use and, so do I, plus I actually have vacation days, if I want to use them.

IMG_20230226_134731.jpg

Tomorrow I will know if my bonuses are cleared enough and Tuesday I will do some planning for Q2, to get a head start on the quarter. This way, I will hopefully be in good condition come the end of Q2 and can take some extra days owing me off there as well, as I have quite a few. I am really trying to plan ahead, which is hard work for a serial procrastinator.

And, while we didn't really have anything planned for our days, my colleague and good friend said last week, that they will doing an overnight cruise with the family on one of the days this week. A few hours later, my wife called and said she was looking at doing a cruise too and we are now tagging along on the same cruise and will spend time together as the two families. We did make sure and double-check that we weren't encroaching on their plans and they were more than happy to have us along.

These cruises are part of Finnish tradition, where it is either go from here to Stockholm and back and don't get off (what we are doing), or get off there for a few hours and spend lunch, coming back the following night instead. It is an easy trip, because there is nothing to do.

IMG_20230226_134800.jpg

However, it leaves quite early in the morning, so we are going to go down the night before and spend the night in a hotel, which is nice and adds to the experience for Smallsteps. We haven't travelled much as a family and she really cherishes these moments that are special, even though they might not be overly special in the grand scheme of things.

I am looking forward to it also, as while it hasn't been that long since I had some days off around Christmas, it has been a very busy start to the year and I am feeling that a short break doing very little is just what is needed at the moment and, I am looking forward to charging the camera and seeing if there is anything worth capturing too. I am also contemplating whether I will take my laptop, which I may, just because I think it will be so much faster to write from there than on my phone. Though, I can manage for a couple days Hiving from the phone only too I guess.

All in all, this has been a good weekend and with a short work week ahead and plans already on the near shore, I am looking forward to what is to come :)

How was your weekend?

I admire people who plan their outings! I must confess that I'm not so methodical about my travels. hahaha. Smallsteps looks happy and you can tell he is enjoying the snow. I live near the sea so the sun, warmth and blue skies are with me 12 months of the year. Yesterday I took a walk on the beach, read for a while, also had a few beers. It was a short but necessary outing to "recharge my batteries". I hope you take lots of pictures on that cruise and share them with us, your readers. It is always nice to read and see your beautiful pictures. Regards, @tarazkp

Like the whole country takes a ski holiday? That is crazy. The closest thing we have to that is spring break when all the schools are out. That's usually staggered though. We have a tiny ski hill in our back yard thanks to all the snow I cleared off the deck this past week!

Yeah, this is staggered too. It was last week down south a bit. This week in the mid of the country, next week up north. It is decent though, considering it amounts to 5 weeks of vacation a year.

That is so interesting. I can't imagine something like that here.

When it comes to vacations, most Americans get a bum deal.

It must be a beautiful adventure, I have never had the opportunity to be in a country where it snows, in Cuba, where I live the temperature is very warm and prevents climatic phenomena such as snow to take place.
As a sports lover I have seen the sports that are practiced and they are fascinating.
Thank you very much for sharing this experience. Happy week to you and yours. Cheers and best regards.

You might not have snow, but you can definitely enjoy the beach

Do you dance too? Most of my Cuban friends are fantastic dancers :) !

I can enjoy the beaches of our country and its natural beauty.

As for dancing, yes, it is something we do a lot around here. In fact I will try to make a post about yesterday's participation in the International Salsa Festival that takes place here and ends today.

Cheers and greetings.

Good luck with your bonuses tomorrow and wishing you a great relaxing short vacation later in the week.
Glad you had a sunny Sunday to spend some time in the snow with the sled, It's been a very dry summer and winter here, and we have not gone to the Pyrenees mountains this year so haven't seen any snow at all. I miss it!

Has it been a strange winter there too? It seems that all over the place, the weather is "unusual" - not just in Europe. More to come in the next years I suspect...

Have a great week ahead mate!

Ski holiday, never heard of it before. Perhaps, it is bcoz of a country which is cold and snowy during at least six months in year.

It was about 17C in Istanbul today. No needed to open the heater.

Yeah, I can't imagine it being a thing in most countries :)

17C and I would be in shorts!

@tarazkp What a joy that you are planning that cruise between both families, I think that for rest and recreation there should always be time, rest, share, it is life.
I like the photos very much.

Seems quite nice. I never learned to ski, but I can use ice skates a little or a sleight if needed.

Playing in the snow is fun, as long as it isn't slushy and wet :)

My weekend was kind of boring as I didn't go home 😅 and applied Bruno Mars Song cause today I don't feel like doing anything 🤣.

I was thinking, how could it be warm in winter? And me walking in that pavement with snow, I might freeze already.

Good luck in claiming your bonuses and for the incoming Cruise.

Ah! A ski holiday! What a novel concept. Makes total sense for your location. (@new.things, want to spend a year or two living in Scandinavia? !LOL)

Meanwhile, I love that you call your kiddo "Smallsteps". What a clever nickname for an online platform. !LUV it.

Hope you find some fun things to photograph on your cruise. Look forward to seeing them. Hope your recovery/rebuilding health is going well.

Scandinavia is a pretty great place to live all in all - as long as you dress appropriately for the weather :)

@smallsteps has her own account here, but I haven't maintained it for a couple years :)

How was your weekend?

Good. I wrote another successful splinterlands battle post. Right now it is at 14.69 payout. Also yesterday I received final Airdrop card and was able to sell it for a nice amount of hive.

I think that battle posts earn me the most. My art posts almost never got that high payout.

Planning ahead is defintely worth it when you have such great rewards like time spent in fun with your family.
And well, flex-hours are very useful. I am publishing today an article about smart/remote working since here in Italy some evolution process was missed and what was supposed to be Smart working was in the end simply Remote and bad-organized work

Some companies have been able to organize remote working well, others failed hard. The one I work for already had remote work as part of the process, so it was very easy.

Well I know I'm writing this the next weekend after your ski time... but this also happens to be MY SKI WEEK here in USA. My dad flew out my sis and my bro to meet up in Steamboat, CO for 5 days in Rocky Mountain heaven. It has been around -6 C if I'm doing the conversion correctly, with fresh snow every day so far. I'm just now reading a few articles ahead of gearing up and heading out for first tracks after getting another 8" fresh snow yesterday.

Enjoy the cruise, sounds like you deserve it. For my honeymoon in the summer of 2010, my ex-wife and I did a tremendous 14-day cruise of the Baltic Sea, leaving from Dover, UK and stopping in Copenhagen, some German port city I didn't bother to visit, Tallinn, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, and finally Stockholm before heading home. I wish I had more time in both Helsinki and Stockholm, but it was a fabulous way to dart around Scandinavia to get a small taste of what life is like in your part of the world. Looking forward to coming back again some day.
