For Those Bloody Days

One of my favorite times of the year.

Kill time.

I feel it has arrived a bit earlier than last year. Perhaps the entire world including nature is becoming more impatient, tired of waiting for things to mature, to ripen, before declaring they are ready. But, if you want to get to where you want to go, you are going to have to go and get your hands dirty.

1000038734.jpg

Or bloody.

1000038735.jpg

We have two cherry trees, and while the mature one that bore so much fruit last year had close to zero, the baby one in the front yard was filled with sweet (considering they are a sour variety) cherries. Today, in the sunshine, we plucked them off the tree and I spent about an hour and a half pitting them. I don't know if there is an easier way, but this way is at least gruesome.

1000038732.jpg

Using a small paring knife, I sliced each at the point they were attached to the stem and then squeezed the pit out into a bowl, dumping the flesh into another larger bowl. I must have pitted about 1000 of them, after giving some whole ones away to the neighbors, as we will never eat them all.

I love cherry pie, but not that much of it.

Oh, and the paring knife was sharp and despite the look of blood, I didn't cut myself as I had expected. I bought a sharpening iron a few weeks back that was on sale for 6€ - best 6€ I have ever spent. Not only are my knives sharp, but I look like a professional when I sharpen them.

It is all looks.

1000038733.jpg

I like the photos of the cherry pitting process, and you will likely see one or two of these pop up on particularly red days on the market. You know, those 30% drop days?

I have had the feeling that there is something like that coming. It might not be a 30-percenter, but maybe a 15. I might be wrong though, because I have also been looking at some significant upward movement on the horizon, so hopefully my feeling is wrong and instead the move up takes place instead.

1000038731.jpg

Life on the edge of blood.

1000038737.jpg

Holding crypto often feels like living on the knife edge between glory and misery, with so much of it teetering on the brink more of than not, all for that rush, that high from well, the highs. And then, after that period, it is back to triage, stemming the flow of blood and nursing wounds.

1000038736.jpg

But, if you play the cards right (I never have), there will be enough flesh left over to put into the lows, fill the bags, sprinkle with some sugar and freeze, ready for when the bull comes back and it is time to have some cake, and eat it too.

Hopefully you enjoyed some Sunday, Bloody Sunday photography tonight. No cherry pie was made, nut hopefully my wife will tend to her wifely duties and make one soon enough. Perhaps I will put her pie recipe into a post, as it is simple and tasty, and works with almost any fruit.

Cherry is useful in that it thins the blood. Cherry contains substances - coumarins, which contribute to the normalization of blood clotting. Especially a lot of them in the leaves, which can be brewed as a tea.

Lol, while reading I was simply singing Sunday Bloody Sunday from U2 but you got the point :D
Cherry are lovely, healthy and great to be put also under alcohol or "grappa" a special liquor we have in the north of Italy.
Today, on a trip across some waterfalls here on the mountains I tasted the blue-berry liquor. Astonishing

Cherry Grappa? Sounds okay!
They do wild blueberry drinks here (technically, they are bilberries) - pretty good :)

Ah Grappa, that brings back fond memories of when I was there! It's strong stuff but I loved it!

Comparing to my cherries, which I posted about harvesting last month, your cherries seem smaller and red. That means not much sunlight.

They are normalish - quite dark this year. Might be the light. They likely don't get quite enough sun most years this far north, but they are the sweetest they have been so far for us.

I done a cherry blood hand post a couple of weeks back, when I made a batch of cherry jam. It's such a wonderful colour, I got my daughter to take some pictures, cos it looked so good.
You got me craving cherry pie nowXxx

The most surprising thing about cherry blood, is that it doesn't stain the hands, just washes away. Even picking strawberries leave the hands red!

You got me craving cherry pie nowXxx

Get baking! :)

Life hack tip for putting cherries! If you have a metal straw, the reusable ones that are often aluminum or stainless steel, you just put the tip of the cherry where you plucked the stem off it and push it down. It’s the perfect size and you get the pit out in 2-4 seconds per cherry! I did dozens of them a few years ago when we went cherry picking. My wife bought a cherry pitting tool since then and we use that but I’m fond of the ingenuity of the metal or hard plastic straw style!

Pin that for next year! Makes your life a lot easier lol. It’s also fun to let the kids blow the cherry guts out of the straw, my son enjoyed that part the most.

With financial shenanigans I always figure the graph is only problem if it drops lower than it has been, a drop from high to not as low as when you started just seems inconvenient XD

But I don't know anything.

only ever really use graphs for animation and not even that anymore given that I haven't animated for years now and also have this bad habit of looking at them from a long way out

Yay for not cutting yourself! Pitting cherries kind of looks like a delicate operation even if it's probably not that hard once you know what you're doing.

If it's easy why don't you make the cherry pie :D

There will be more blood in the streets when retail comes in soft for holidays, but that will be last buying opportunity before halving. There should be sideways 2024 Q2-3 since US election means indecision in the markets, will be interesting if there are any major regulations in place before the shit hits the fan.

Nice one!
At first, I thought it was blood but the cherries look so red and I'm trying to imagine how sweet it would be...

Ooh yummy! Yes please do a post on your wife's cherry pie recipe! A sharp knife makes all jobs easier, no matter what you are stabbing them into lol. The cherries look delicious and being homegrown makes them all the better for you.
