Just like every week, I’m here in this beautiful #wednesdaywalk community to share my Wednesday journey with you, thanks to this initiative that I love so much and never miss—led by our dear friend @tattoodjay. It’s already become part of my weekly routine: to pause for a moment, breathe, take in the beauty of the island, and tell you how my day went. It’s a way to connect with you all and also to appreciate those little moments that make each of our days special.
This day started early, as days with technical work tend to do. We had to carry out our painting and pest control routine at the Sunsol Unik hotel, a place that’s already part of our regular route and where we’re always welcomed warmly. We also needed to take advantage of the trip to pick up some stainless steel screws and a rust inhibitor that the blacksmith needed to finish a gate we’d had custom-made for my father. He was really excited about that gate, so we wanted to make sure we got exactly what was needed to make it perfect.
When we left home, the weather was excellent, though stifling, as is typical on Margarita Island. That heat you feel from very early on—which can sometimes be exhausting—but which also illuminates the landscapes and gives them that special glow I love to photograph.

As we made our way to the hotel, the sky was clear and the sun was beginning to rise brightly, signaling that it would be a long but productive day.
We did our job very well; the chlorination and disinfection levels were within normal parameters, which is always a relief. When you work with water systems, you know that every detail matters, and seeing that everything is in order gives you a sense of satisfaction that keeps you going with a positive attitude.

With that work done, we set out to find the stainless steel screws. Finding them wasn’t the problem—it was getting the exact size we needed: 14 mm, a size that isn’t always available in every store. We were recommended several stores, so we went around to different parts of the city.

This tour allowed us to take photos of beautiful places on the island, such as the municipality of García, home to Villa Rosa, with its tall, colorful buildings. When this town was founded, it was called a “commuter town” because many people work in other municipalities and return there only to rest. I’ve always found that name curious, and every time I pass through there, I remember its history.

After leaving the municipality of García, we began touring Mariño in search of anti-corrosive paint. It had to be red, because the gate will be painted brown, and brown anti-corrosive paint is very hard to find. So we focused on finding a red one that, with any luck, would be close to the shade we needed. We visited several stores, asked around, and checked shelves and catalogs. At one of them, they told us we could find it at La Tienda del Pintor. Although we didn’t have any luck at the first store, they recommended we go to the Arismendi municipality, where they usually have a wider variety of colors.

When we arrived, we finally found the red anti-corrosion primer. There wasn’t any brown, but this would work perfectly for us. With the paint and screws in hand, we headed home, satisfied that we’d completed our task and happy to have found what we needed to finish my father’s gate.
