Another week begins, and with it come the new challenges that this season brings to our daily lives—those small challenges that, though they may seem simple, set the pace of our routines and remind us that each day brings its own experience. I wish you all a wonderful, productive morning for those of you who, like us, are already fully immersed in your work, and a happy break for those still enjoying vacation—because not everyone works at this time of year, and each of us lives at our own pace and follows our own story.
Today I want to tell you how my husband and I spent Sunday afternoon—a simple afternoon but one filled with those moments that bring comfort and set the mood for the week ahead. Lately, weekends have been quieter for the two of us, because our son spends more time at his friend’s house, so the house is quiet and has a different atmosphere, as if she, too, is taking the opportunity to give us a comforting break.
We woke up around 8:00 a.m., without rushing, enjoying that leisurely awakening that you only feel on Sundays. We feed our birds, who always greet us with their distinctive calls, and while my husband set up the cordless pressure washer, I took over the kitchen to prepare breakfast and then lunch. Cooking at a leisurely pace always relaxes me—it’s like a little therapy that connects me to my home.

Hoy quiero contarles cómo pasamos mi esposo y yo la tarde del domingo, una tarde sencilla pero llena de esos momentos que reconfortan y preparan el ánimo para la semana que está por comenzar. Últimamente, los fines de semana han sido más tranquilos para nosotros dos, porque nuestro hijo pasa más tiempo en casa de su amiga, así que la casa queda silenciosa y con un aire distinto, como si también ella aprovechará para regalarnos un reconfortante descanso.
Nos levantamos cerca de las 8:00 am, sin prisa, disfrutando ese despertar pausado que solo se siente los domingos. Alimentamos a nuestras aves, que siempre nos reciben con sus sonidos particulares, y mientras mi esposo se puso a ajustar el hidroyet inalámbrico, yo me adueñé de la cocina para preparar el desayuno y luego el almuerzo. Cocinar en calma siempre me relaja, es como una pequeña terapia que me conecta con mi hogar.
After lunch, we rested for a while longer, letting our bodies recover from the intense heat on the island. This weather, which seems to give us no respite, makes you think twice before going out, because being outside an air-conditioned area becomes a challenge. Even so, we decided to head out to buy a few things for the week and see if we could fill up on gas. I like to do this on Saturday, because on Sunday few gas stations are open, and something so simple can turn into a bit of an odyssey.
As soon as we stepped outside, the heat hit us immediately—that dry heat that seems to envelop everything. However, nature always finds a way to show its beauty, and I was able to take some excellent photos. The sky had its own special charm, and nature seemed to stand out more than usual, as if the sun were giving it a special touch. Sometimes, even on the hottest days, the island treats us to landscapes that steal our hearts.

Este clima, que parece no darnos tregua, hace que uno piense dos veces antes de salir, porque estar fuera de un área climatizada se vuelve un desafío. Aun así, decidimos salir con la idea de comprar algunas cosas para la semana y ver si podíamos colocar combustible. Me gusta hacerlo el sábado, porque el domingo abren pocas estaciones y algo tan sencillo puede convertirse en una pequeña odisea.
Al salir, el calor nos golpeó de inmediato, ese calor seco que parece envolverlo todo. Sin embargo, la naturaleza siempre encuentra la manera de mostrarse hermosa, y pude tomar unas fotos excelentes. El cielo tenía su encanto particular y la naturaleza parecían resaltar más de lo normal, como si el sol les diera un toque especial. A veces, incluso en los días más calurosos, la Isla nos regala paisajes que enamoran.
Little by little, we started looking for a place to fill up. The afternoon slowly drew to a close, the sky began to change color, and those sunset hues accompanied us as we continued visiting the gas stations. Finally, after a while, we were able to fill up with the fuel we needed to start the week off on the right foot. That feeling of having a full tank is a relief, because you know you’ve at least taken care of one important detail.
Poco a poco fuimos buscando dónde colocar combustible. La tarde fue cayendo lentamente, el cielo comenzó a cambiar de color y ese tonos del atardecer nos acompañó mientras seguíamos recorriendo las estaciones. Finalmente, después de un rato, pudimos colocar el combustible que necesitábamos para comenzar la semana con tranquilidad. Esa sensación de tener el tanque lleno es un alivio, porque uno sabe que ya tiene resuelto al menos un detalle importante.
Then we went to the Sigo market to buy a few things for the week—the basics, the essentials, the things we always need. By the time we left, it was almost dark, and we headed home with that sense of calm you only feel when you know you’ve taken care of everything on your to-do list.
Luego fuimos al mercado Sigo para comprar algunas cosas para la semana; lo básico, lo necesario, lo que siempre hace falta. Al salir ya casi era de noche y tomamos el camino a casa, con esa calma que solo se siente cuando uno sabe que cumplió con todo lo que tenía pendiente.
The truth is, it was a very quiet day, but also a very restful and comforting one for us. Sometimes that’s all you need: a laid-back Sunday, without any surprises, with a few small tasks taken care of and the certainty that the week ahead looks promising.
