[ENG/ESP] I work sculptures and memories of a hot day.
We begin a new work week and with it comes new challenges, new opportunities to grow, learn and advance. I wish you, from the bottom of my heart, a very productive start to the week, full of accomplished goals and good times.
My day started very early in the morning. I woke up with energy and enthusiasm, ready to face a new day. The weather was simply spectacular, the sky was clear, with the sun shining brighter than ever, illuminating and warming everything around. The natural landscapes of the island blended harmoniously with the urban ones, creating a very beautiful view, one of those that one admires with every step.
Comenzamos una nueva semana de trabajo y con ella llegan nuevos retos, nuevas oportunidades para crecer, aprender y avanzar. Les deseo, de todo corazón, un inicio de semana muy productivo, lleno de metas cumplidas y buenos momentos.
Mi día comenzó muy temprano en la mañana. Me levanté con energía y entusiasmo, lista para enfrentar una nueva jornada. El clima era sencillamente espectacular, el cielo despejado, con el sol brillando con más fuerza que nunca, iluminando y calentando todo lo que rodeaba. Los paisajes naturales de la isla se mezclaban de forma armoniosa con los urbanos, creando una vista muy hermosa, de esas que uno admira con cada paso.
My first stop was the Sunsol Unik hotel, where I had to perform my routine chlorine measurements and other necessary checks to ensure that everything was in order. I performed my work carefully, as always, paying attention to every detail. When I finished, I had to wait a while for my husband to come for me. The heat at that time was quite intense, the day was especially sweltering, so I decided to walk around a bit to cool off while I waited.
Mi primera parada fue el hotel Sunsol Unik, donde tenía que realizar mis mediciones rutinarias de cloro y otros controles necesarios para asegurar que todo estuviera en orden. Realicé mi trabajo con cuidado, como siempre, prestando atención a cada detalle. Al terminar, tuve que esperar un rato a que mi esposo viniera por mí. El calor a esa hora era bastante intenso, el día estaba especialmente sofocante, así que decidí caminar un poco para refrescarme mientras esperaba.
I went to the Parque Costa Azul shopping center, which was very close by, and I felt much better there. The place is very well air-conditioned, which was a real relief. I sat down to rest for a while and let my eyes roam the space, admiring everything around me.
Me dirigí al centro comercial Parque Costa Azul, que estaba muy cerca, y allí me sentí mucho mejor. El lugar está muy bien climatizado, lo cual fue un verdadero alivio. Me senté a descansar un rato y dejé que mis ojos recorrieran el espacio, admirando todo lo que había a mi alrededor.
It was at that moment that my eyes went straight to some impressive sculptures by sculptor Augusto Acosta. I was completely fascinated. The first one that caught my attention is called “Madre pescadora”. It depicts a woman holding hands with a child. He holds a fish, and she carries a basket on her head. This sculpture conveys a lot about the roots of the islanders, about the work of fishermen, about motherhood and the transmission of knowledge. I found it deeply moving.
Fue en ese momento que mi vista se dirigió directamente a unas esculturas impresionantes del escultor Augusto Acosta. Quedé completamente fascinada. La primera que llamó mi atención se llama “Madre pescadora”. Representa a una mujer tomada de la mano con un niño. Él sostiene un pez, y ella lleva una cesta en la cabeza. Esta escultura transmite mucho sobre las raíces de los isleños, sobre el trabajo de los pescadores, sobre la maternidad y la transmisión de conocimientos. Me pareció profundamente conmovedora.
Then I saw another work entitled “Las mareras”. This one shows two women, one on top of the other, with the one on top holding a basket full of fish. Again, a powerful representation of the role of women in coastal communities, in fishing, in daily work. Both sculptures have a singular beauty that speaks not only of art, but also of identity.
Luego vi otra obra titulada “Las mareras”. Esta muestra a dos mujeres, una sobre otra, y la que está en la parte superior sostiene una cesta llena de peces. De nuevo, una representación poderosa del rol de la mujer en la comunidades costeras, en la pesca, en el trabajo diario. Ambas esculturas tienen una belleza singular que habla no solo de arte, sino también de identidad.
Just as I was contemplating the second sculpture, my husband arrived. I had already let him know I was at the mall, so it didn't take long. We headed into town together because we had to find some connections for a future job. We want to organize ourselves calmly, without rushing, and make sure we find the right materials.
We went to the “Catalano” trading house, which is well known because it always has what you need. We were lucky: we found the hot-melt connections we were looking for, and at a very good price. We made the purchase with peace of mind, feeling that everything was going well.
Justo mientras contemplaba la segunda escultura, llegó mi esposo. Ya le había avisado que estaba en el centro comercial, así que no tardó mucho. Nos dirigimos juntos a la ciudad porque teníamos que buscar algunas conexiones para un trabajo futuro. Queremos organizarnos con calma, sin apuros, y asegurarnos de encontrar los materiales adecuados.
Fuimos a la casa comercial “Catalano”, que es bien conocida porque siempre tiene lo que uno necesita. Tuvimos suerte: encontramos las conexiones para termofusión que buscábamos, y a muy buen precio. Hicimos la compra tranquilos, sintiendo que todo estaba fluyendo bien.
After that, we started our way back home with serenity. Despite the strong heat felt on the island, we did not fail to appreciate the landscapes that opened before us; mountains, and roads lined with vegetation, all glistening in the sun. These are things that one learns to appreciate with time.
Después de eso, emprendimos el regreso a casa con serenidad. A pesar del calor fuerte que se sentía en la Isla, no dejamos de apreciar los paisajes que se abrían ante nosotros; montañas, y caminos bordeados de vegetación, todos relucientes bajo el sol. Son cosas que uno aprende a valorar con el tiempo.
