[ENG/ESP] A Wednesday spent juggling work, family, and beautiful scenery
Just like every Wednesday, I’m here with you again to take part in @tattoodjay wonderful initiative—an activity I truly enjoy because it’s become an open window to every corner of the world. Through the journeys each of us shares, I feel like we’re traveling together, keeping each other company, and discovering landscapes, stories, and moments we wouldn’t otherwise experience. It’s a pleasure for me to be part of this community and to bring you, week after week, a little piece of my life on the island.
My journey today began quite early—even earlier than usual. I had to head to the Sunsol Unik hotel to carry out our routine disinfection and chlorination of the main tank, a task that’s part of our job and one we always strive to perform with dedication and care. As I left home, the first thing I noticed was the weather; the sky was radiant and clear, with that special glow that mornings have when they promise to be a hot day. I took advantage of that moment to capture a few shots with my phone’s camera—little snapshots that I could share with you later.
Como cada miércoles, me encuentro nuevamente acá con ustedes para participar en la hermosa iniciativa de @tattoodjay , una dinámica que disfruto profundamente porque se ha convertido en una ventana abierta hacia cualquier rincón del mundo. A través de los recorridos que cada quien comparte, siento que viajamos juntos, que nos acompañamos, que descubrimos paisajes, historias y momentos que de otra manera no conoceríamos. Para mí es un placer formar parte de esta comunidad y traerles, semana tras semana, un pedacito de mi vida en la Isla.
Mi recorrido de hoy comenzó bastante temprano, incluso más de lo habitual. Tenía que dirigirme al hotel Sunsol Unik para realizar nuestra rutina de desinfección y cloración del tanque principal, una tarea que forma parte de nuestro trabajo y que siempre procuramos hacer con dedicación y cuidado. Al salir de casa, lo primero que notamos fue el clima; el cielo estaba radiante, despejado, con ese brillo particular que tiene la mañana cuando promete ser un día caluroso. Aproveché ese instante para capturar algunos momentos con el lente de mi teléfono, pequeñas postales que más tarde podría compartir con ustedes.
We arrived at the hotel and got started on our routine. While my husband and I were working, we got a call from my father. His truck had broken down, and he needed help. We already knew that once we were done at the hotel, we’d have to go help him, so we tried to work at a good pace so we could get to him as soon as possible.
Llegamos al hotel y nos dispusimos a comenzar la rutina. Mientras mi esposo y yo avanzábamos con el trabajo, recibimos una llamada de mi padre. Su camioneta se había dañado y necesitaba ayuda. Ya sabíamos que, al terminar en el hotel, tendríamos que ir a auxiliarlo, así que procuramos avanzar con buen ritmo para poder atenderlo cuanto antes.
Once we were done at the hotel, we set off. My father, who was near his house, had managed to stop the truck and lock it up securely, but he couldn’t do anything else. When we arrived, my husband checked the vehicle and realized the problem was with the starter. With great care and patience, we managed to start it and slowly drive it to the mechanic’s shop.
As soon as we arrived, they began inspecting it, but there was another vehicle taking up space inside the shop, so we had to work outside in the direct sun. That day, the temperature was around 32°C, and the heat was truly stifling. We had to stay constantly hydrated because we’d already had a long day, and the weather showed no sign of letting up.
Al concluir en el hotel, nos pusimos en marcha. Mi padre, que estaba cerca de su casa, había logrado detener la camioneta y dejarla bien cerrada, pero no podía hacer más. Cuando llegamos, mi esposo revisó el vehículo y se dio cuenta de que el problema estaba en el cloche. Con mucho cuidado y paciencia logramos encenderla y moverla lentamente hasta el taller del mecánico.
Apenas llegamos, comenzaron a revisarla, pero dentro del taller había otro vehículo ocupando el espacio, así que tocó trabajar afuera, bajo el sol directo. Ese día la temperatura estaba alrededor de 32°C, y el calor era realmente sofocante. Tuvimos que mantenernos hidratados constantemente porque ya veníamos de una jornada larga y el clima no daba tregua.
After several hours, they managed to identify all the problems; the upper and lower seals on the oil pan were damaged, and there was also a completely clogged filter that was causing another problem. Once everything was repaired, we bought the other necessary parts and a bottle of oil for the transmission, since the vehicle needed it.
Después de varias horas, lograron identificar todas las fallas; el bombín de arriba y el de abajo del cloche estaban dañados, y además había un filtro completamente tapado que estaba generando otra falla adicional. Una vez reparado todo, compramos otras piezas necesarias y también un frasco de aceite para la caja, porque el vehículo lo requería.
When the truck was finally ready, we took it to my father so he could rest easy. He gets very stressed when something breaks; he doesn’t like it when his things malfunction, so seeing him more relaxed was a relief for us.
With all the day’s tasks completed—including the unexpected one that wasn’t part of the plan—we set off on the drive back home. Along the way, as always, we were accompanied by the island’s beautiful landscapes—the ones that never cease to amaze me and always remind me how lucky I am to live in such a special place.
Cuando finalmente la camioneta estuvo lista, se la llevamos a mi padre para que pudiera estar tranquilo. Él se estresa mucho cuando algo se le daña, no le gusta que sus cosas fallen, así que verlo más calmado fue un alivio para nosotros.
Ya con todas las tareas del día cumplidas —incluyendo la tarea extra que no estaba en los planes— emprendimos el camino de regreso a casa. En el trayecto, como siempre, nos acompañaron los hermosos paisajes de la Isla, esos que nunca dejan de sorprenderme y que siempre me recuerdan la fortuna de vivir en un lugar tan especial.
