[ENG/ESP] A sunny Thursday spent working and traveling to Isla de Coche
I wish you all a wonderful Friday; you’re almost ready to start your well-deserved break. For many, the weekend is synonymous with taking a breather, taking a deep breath, and letting go of the week’s weight. For me, however, this will be a short break, because I have to work through Saturday. Even so, I’m facing it with a positive attitude, grateful for every day I’ve completed and for every experience that comes with the job.
This week has been particularly hectic. We’ve had a lot of work, and on top of everything, this past Thursday felt like an incredibly long day—one of those that seem to have more hours than they actually do. We had to travel to Isla de Coche, and although we’re feeling the fatigue, it’s also true that these trips always leave us with stories, landscapes, and moments that are well worth it.
We got up very early, almost at the first crow of the roosters, so we could reach Playa El Yaque before the boat that would take us to our destination left. The weather was excellent; a radiant sun that promised heat from early on, that typical Margarita warmth that you already know and that, although sometimes exhausting, also brightens the day.

Para mí, en cambio, este será un descanso cortito, porque me toca trabajar hasta el sábado. Aun así, lo afronto con la mejor disposición, agradecida por cada jornada cumplida y por cada experiencia que trae el trabajo.
Esta semana ha sido particularmente movida. Hemos tenido bastante trabajo y, entre todo, este jueves que recién culminó se sintió como una jornada larguísima, de esas que parecen tener más horas de las que realmente tienen. Nos tocó trasladarnos a la Isla de Coche, y aunque el cansancio se siente, también es cierto que estos viajes siempre dejan anécdotas, paisajes y momentos que valen la pena.
Nos levantamos muy temprano, casi con el primer canto de los gallos, para poder llegar a Playa El Yaque antes de que saliera la lancha que nos llevaría a nuestro destino. El clima estaba excelente; un sol radiante que anunciaba calor desde temprano, ese calorcito típico de Margarita que uno ya conoce y que, aunque a veces agota, también alegra el día.
We picked up our friend Luis, and the three of us set off together. He always adds a touch of humor to our trips, so the morning started with laughter. When we arrived at the pier, we were warmly welcomed and waited in the waiting area.
Pasamos por nuestro amigo Luis y nos fuimos los tres juntos. Él siempre le pone un toque de humor a los viajes, así que la mañana comenzó con risas. Al llegar al embarcadero fuimos bien recibidos y nos quedamos en el área de espera.
When the boat arrived, we put on our life jackets and got ready for the trip. Luis got the front seat—the one everyone calls “the brave one’s seat”—because that’s where you get splashed with seawater. He eagerly asked for it because he wanted a better view of the scenery, and everyone gave it to him, knowing full well what was in store for him. It was a comical scene: he was happy with the seat, and we were laughing because we knew he’d end up a little wet. And that’s exactly what happened. Every wave that hit the bow gave him an unexpected splash, but he enjoyed it like a kid.

The trip was peaceful and, above all, beautiful. The sea was calm, with that deep blue color that captivates you, and a gentle breeze accompanied us. When we arrived at the Sunsol Punta Blanca hotel, we were greeted by the concierge, who gave us a tour of the facilities.
El trayecto fue tranquilo y, sobre todo, hermoso. El mar estaba sereno, con ese azul profundo que enamora, y el viento nos acompañó suavemente. Al llegar al hotel Sunsol Punta Blanca, fuimos recibidos por la muchacha de calidad, quien nos acompañó en el recorrido por las instalaciones.
Since our last visit six months ago, they had addressed many of our suggestions, which is always encouraging.
We measured the residual chlorine levels and reviewed the desalination plant’s parameters. Everything was within the acceptable ranges, allowing us to proceed with confidence.
Desde nuestra última visita, hace seis meses, habían trabajado en muchas de nuestras sugerencias, lo cual siempre es satisfactorio.

As we were inspecting the fiberglass tanks, a curious iguana appeared from under the eaves, peeking out as if it wanted to supervise our work. It stood perfectly still, posing for the photo, as if it knew it was the star of the moment.

We kept working at a brisk pace, because time flies in Coche and you have to keep an eye on the last boat’s departure, which is at 4:30 p.m. After that, you have no choice but to stay until the next day, when the first boat sets sail at 8:30 a.m.
Luckily, we finished on time and were able to board the return trip with the satisfaction of a job well done. The sea, once again, treated us to a calm journey, as if bidding us a fond farewell.
Seguimos trabajando con buen ritmo, porque en Coche el tiempo pasa volando y hay que estar atentos a la salida de la última lancha, que es a las cuatro y treinta de la tarde. Después de esa hora, no queda más remedio que quedarse hasta el día siguiente, cuando zarpa la primera a las ocho y treinta de la mañana.
Por suerte, terminamos a tiempo y pudimos embarcar de regreso con la satisfacción del deber cumplido. El mar, nuevamente, nos regaló un viaje sereno, como si nos despidiera con cariño.
