[ENG/ESP] A Sunday where nature and family come together.
We’re starting a new week, and as always, it’s full of challenges, small goals, and those obstacles that keep us moving forward. That’s why I want to wish you all an excellent start to the week, filled with encouragement, clarity, and positive energy. For my part, I’ve decided to begin these days with renewed strength, driven by that engine that never fails and always sustains me: my family. They are my center, my driving force, and my constant reminder that every effort is worth it.
Last Sunday was my only day off all week, and I enjoyed it from the very moment I opened my eyes. At home, we have a tradition that’s been with us for years: when we wake up, we greet each other with hugs and kisses. It’s a simple gesture, but it fills our home with a harmony that money can’t buy. After that family moment, we opened the windows to let in the morning light, and that’s when one of those little surprises that life gives us without warning happened: a little dove flew in through one of the windows and, apparently, couldn’t find her way out. Exhausted, she perched on the kitchen counter. My husband, very calmly, managed to catch it to help it get back outside. It’s not the first time this has happened; living in a valley surrounded by nature has these beautiful moments—those unexpected encounters where life always seems to smile in some way.
Comenzamos una nueva semana y, como siempre, llega cargada de retos, de pequeñas metas y de esos desafíos que nos mantienen en movimiento. Por eso quiero desearles un excelente comienzo, lleno de ánimo, claridad y buena energía. En mi caso, decido iniciar estos días con todas mis fuerzas renovadas, impulsada por ese motor que nunca falla y que siempre me sostiene; mi familia. Ellos son mi centro, mi impulso y mi recordatorio constante de que cada esfuerzo vale la pena.
El domingo que recién terminó fue mi único día de descanso en toda la semana, y lo disfruté desde el primer instante en que abrí los ojos. En casa tenemos un hábito que nos acompaña desde hace años; al despertar, nos damos los buenos días con abrazos y besos. Es un gesto sencillo, pero llena el hogar de una armonía que no se compra en ningún lugar. Después de ese momento familiar, abrimos las ventanas para que entrara la luz de la mañana, y fue entonces cuando ocurrió una de esas pequeñas sorpresas que la vida regala sin avisar; una palomita entró por una de las ventanas y, al parecer, no encontraba cómo salir. Agotada, se posó en el mesón de la cocina. Mi esposo, con mucha calma, logró atraparla para ayudarla a volver al exterior. No es la primera vez que sucede; vivir en un valle rodeado de naturaleza tiene esas cosas hermosas, esos encuentros inesperados donde la vida siempre sonríe de alguna manera.
After breakfast, we each went about our household chores. My son tidied up the yard—I helped him a little—and my husband set to work cleaning the banana plants. He even cut down a bunch of bananas that were already ripe. Then we had to head over to my father’s house, where he has a rather rebellious turkey rooster that refuses to stay inside the coop. Since my father’s coops don’t have roofs, the rooster simply flies away and escapes whenever he can.
The weather was perfect, with that special glow that nature has when the sun sets just right.
Después del desayuno, cada uno tomó su rumbo dentro de los deberes del hogar. Mi hijo recogió el patio, yo le ayudé un poco, y mi esposo se dedicó a limpiar las matas de plátano. Incluso cortó un racimo de plátano que ya estaba listo. Luego debíamos salir hacia la casa de mi padre, quien tiene un gallo gallipavo bastante rebelde que se niega a quedarse dentro del gallinero. Como los gallineros de mi padre no tienen techo, el gallo simplemente vuela y se escapa cada vez que puede.
El clima estaba perfecto, con ese brillo especial que tiene la naturaleza cuando el sol cae justo como debe.
When we arrived, we tried to catch the rooster, but he wouldn’t let us. So we left him alone for a while and went out to the backyard, where the fruit trees always have something to offer: tangerines, oranges, cherimoyas, and mangoes. My husband and my son, using a long stick, managed to knock down some ripe mangoes.
Al llegar, intentamos atrapar al gallo, pero no se dejaba. Así que lo dejamos tranquilo por un rato y nos fuimos al patio, donde los árboles frutales siempre están ofreciendo algo; mandarina, naranja, anón y mango. Mi esposo y mi hijo, con una vara larga, lograron tumbar algunos mangos maduros.
Just when the rooster least expected it, our son quickly caught him, and we were finally able to bring him back home.
Cuando el gallo menos lo esperaba, nuestro hijo lo atrapó con rapidez y finalmente pudimos llevarlo de vuelta a casa.
We couldn't stay long because our son had to visit his friend, who's been sick for a week. After dropping him off at her house, my husband and I went to the Sigo market, a place where we always like to shop because of the great service. We did our shopping, and as we were leaving, we came across something that completely surprised us: a car made of wood. We'd never seen anything like it. Of course, I took several photos of it; oddities like that deserve to be immortalized.
No podíamos quedarnos mucho tiempo porque nuestro hijo debía visitar a su amiga, que lleva una semana enferma. Después de dejarlo con ella, mi esposo y yo fuimos al mercado de Sigo, un lugar donde siempre nos gusta comprar por la buena atención. Hicimos nuestras compras y, al salir, nos encontramos con algo que nos dejó completamente sorprendidos; un auto hecho de madera. Nunca habíamos visto algo así. Por supuesto, le tomé varias fotos; esas rarezas merecen ser inmortalizadas.
When we got home, we rested a bit to get ready for the start of the week. I’ll be telling you more over the next few days in another post, where I’ll share a little bit about my day-to-day life.
