[ENG/ESP] A Sunday of cooking, laughter, and family
I wish you all an excellent week—the kind that starts off on a positive note and ends with the satisfaction of having made progress toward our goals. I hope each of you can find moments of productivity, inspiration, and peace in the days ahead. As for me, I’m sure my week will be quite busy; I have work to catch up on, goals to achieve, and plans I want to start putting into action little by little. But before the daily grind takes over, I wanted to share a beautiful moment I recently experienced with my family—the driving force behind my day-to-day life and the reminder of just how truly important they are to me.
My family here in Venezuela isn’t very large; there are just the three of us, but the energy they give me is so powerful that sometimes I feel like we’re a whole battalion. Every time I’m with them, I feel recharged, centered, and at peace. This past Sunday was one of those special days that will stay with me because of its simplicity and warmth.
We left early to wish our son’s friend a happy birthday. It was a brief but joyful visit, filled with spontaneous laughter. When we were done, we decided to stop by a few stores to buy what we needed to prepare a meal at home, because my father had said he wanted to cook a turkey from his own flock. In another post, I showed you the turkeys he raises, and this Sunday he was excited to prepare one for us all to share together.
Les deseo una excelente semana, de esas que comienzan con buen ánimo y terminan con la satisfacción de haber avanzado en lo que nos proponemos. Ojalá cada uno de ustedes pueda encontrar momentos de productividad, inspiración y tranquilidad en los días que vienen. Yo, por mi parte, estoy segura de que la mía será bastante movida; tengo trabajo pendiente, metas que cumplir y planes que quiero ir concretando poco a poco. Pero antes de que la rutina me absorba, quería compartirles un momento hermoso que viví recientemente con mi familia, ese motor que impulsa mi día a día y que me recuerda lo verdaderamente importante que son para mi.
Mi familia aquí en Venezuela no es muy extensa; somos apenas tres, pero la energía que me transmiten es tan grande que a veces siento que somos un batallón completo. Cada encuentro con ellos me recarga, me ordena y me devuelve la calma. Este domingo que recién culminó fue uno de esos días especiales que se quedan en mi memoria por su sencillez y su cariño.
Salimos temprano para felicitar a la amiga de nuestro hijo, que estaba cumpliendo años. Fue una visita breve pero alegre, llena de risas espontáneas. Al terminar, decidimos pasar por algunas tiendas para comprar lo necesario para preparar una comida en casa, porque mi padre había dicho que quería cocinar un pavo de los que él mismo cría. En otra de mis publicaciones les mostré la cría de pavos que él tiene, y este domingo estaba emocionado por preparar uno para compartirlo todos juntos.
When my father got home, we dove right into cooking.
He took charge of chopping the turkey, and I prepared all the spices; everything was done with the kind of patience that only people who enjoy cooking as much as we do have. I put the rice and beans on to cook while he worked on the turkey fricassee, because he doesn’t like dry meat and always looks for ways to keep it juicy and full of flavor. Let me tell you, the turkey turned out excellent—so tender and so well-seasoned that we all had seconds.
Cuando mi padre llegó a casa, nos metimos de lleno en la cocina.
Él se encargó de picar el pavo y yo de preparar todas las especias, todo se realizó con esa paciencia que solo tienen quienes disfrutan cocinar como nosotros. Yo puse el arroz y los frijoles, mientras él trabajaba en el fricasé de pavo, porque las carnes secas no son de su gusto y siempre busca la manera de dejarlas jugosas y llenas de sabor. Les cuento que el pavo quedó excelente, tan suave y tan bien sazonado que todos repetimos.
The last thing I made was tostones, because, like any good Cubans, they’re a must-have at our table. They add that crispy touch that rounds out any meal and connects us to our roots.
Lo último que preparé fueron los tostones, porque como buenos cubanos, en nuestra mesa nunca pueden faltar. Son ese toque crujiente que completa cualquier comida y que nos conecta con nuestras raíces.
When everything was ready, we set the table and sat down to eat. As always, my son and my husband started cracking jokes, and my father wasn’t far behind with his stories from his youth. Amid laughter, anecdotes, and jokes, the afternoon was filled with such a lovely atmosphere that we lost track of time.
Cuando todo estuvo listo, preparamos la mesa y nos sentamos a comer. Como siempre, mi hijo y mi esposo comenzaron con sus chistes, y mi padre no se quedó atrás con sus cuentos de juventud. Entre risas, anécdotas y bromas, la tarde se fue llenando de un ambiente tan bonito que olvidamos el tiempo.
We spent a beautiful afternoon—one of those where good cheer flows effortlessly and where you feel like time stands still. Best of all was being together as a family, something that’s priceless these days, especially when work and responsibilities tend to take up so much of our time.
That’s how our Sunday went: simple, warm, and full of love. A day that recharged our energy to face a new week full of challenges, but also opportunities.

Pasamos una tarde hermosa, de esas donde el buen humor fluye sin esfuerzo y donde uno siente que el tiempo se detiene. Lo mejor de todo fue estar reunidos en familia, algo que hoy en día tiene un valor incalculable, sobre todo cuando los trabajos y las responsabilidades suelen absorber gran parte de nuestras horas.
