[ENG/ESP] A relaxing Sunday and beautiful scenery on the island
I wish you all a wonderful and productive start to the week. This Monday, I’ll be starting my work routine early because I have several things to do, and I want to begin in good spirits—with that energy you feel when you know the week promises to be busy, full of tasks, and also little moments of rest. In today’s post, I want to tell you about our Sunday—a simple day, but full of those little details that give everyday life its charm.
My husband and I were home alone this Sunday, so we took advantage of the morning to spend some time with our birds. It’s always a relaxing activity for us—seeing them so calm, organizing their space, and making sure everything is in order gives us a sense of harmony. Mid-morning, we decided to go for a walk to clear our minds and do something different. We also wanted to see if we could grab a bite to eat out, to give me a break from the kitchen and treat myself to some rest after an exhausting week—especially since the week ahead also promises to be intense.
The weather remains quite hot—that typical island heat that sets in early—but even so, the urban and natural landscapes look beautiful. The sunlight makes everything shine brightly, and although the heat can be stifling at times, it also has its charm.
Les deseo un hermoso y productivo inicio de semana. Este lunes comenzaré mi rutina de trabajo desde temprano porque tengo varias cosas que hacer y quiero comenzar con buen ánimo, con esa energía que uno siente cuando sabe que la semana promete movimiento, tareas y también pequeños momentos de descanso. En la publicación de hoy quiero contarles cómo transcurrió nuestro domingo, un día sencillo, pero lleno de esos detalles que hacen que la vida cotidiana tenga su encanto.
Mi esposo y yo estábamos solos en casa este domingo, así que aprovechamos la mañana para dedicarle tiempo a nuestras aves. Siempre es una actividad que nos relaja, porque verlas tranquilas, organizarlas y asegurarnos de que todo esté en orden nos da una sensación de armonía. A media mañana decidimos salir a dar un recorrido con la idea de distraer la mente y hacer algo diferente. También queríamos ver si comíamos algo fuera de casa, para liberarme un poco de la cocina y regalarme un descanso después de una semana agotadora, y considerando que la que comienza también promete ser intensa.
El clima continúa bastante caluroso, ese calor típico de la Isla que abraza desde temprano, pero aun así los paisajes urbanos y naturales se ven hermosos. La luz del sol hace que todo brille con fuerza, y aunque a veces el calor sofoca, también tiene su encanto.
Since it's peak season, there were a lot of cars on the street and traffic was a bit heavy, but nothing that kept us from enjoying the ride. We drove around some parts of the city, taking in the hustle and bustle, the people, and the colors, until we reached the La Vela shopping center.
Como estamos en temporada, había muchos autos en la calle y el tráfico estaba algo pesado, pero nada que nos impidiera disfrutar del camino. Recorrimos algunos puntos de la ciudad, observando el movimiento, la gente, los colores, hasta llegar al centro comercial La Vela.
The first thing that struck me when I walked in was the pleasant atmosphere, full of joy, with families strolling around, people chatting, and, above all, the well-air-conditioned spaces—something I really appreciated because the heat on the island is intense, and stepping into a cool place feels like a refreshing caress.
Lo primero que me sorprendió al entrar fue ese ambiente tan agradable, lleno de alegría, de familias paseando, de personas conversando, y sobre todo los espacios bien climatizados, algo que se agradece muchísimo porque el calor en la Isla es fuerte y entrar a un lugar fresco se siente como una refrescante caricia.
We walked around the hallways for a while, enjoying the atmosphere, and then went up to the food court where the KFC is located. My husband loves chicken, and he loves the chicken there because of its crispy, flavorful breading. We ate that juicy, delicious chicken, which left us completely satisfied.
Caminamos un rato por los pasillos, disfrutando del ambiente, y luego subimos al área de comida donde está el local de KFC. A mi esposo le encanta el pollo, y el de allí lo ama por el empanizado tan crujiente y sabroso que tiene. Comimos ese jugoso y delicioso pollo que nos dejó completamente satisfechos.
After lunch, we decided to take a short walk to help our food settle and continue enjoying the outing. Along the way, near the bookstore-café, we saw a very eye-catching phone booth that looked like a vintage one. Of course, I didn’t miss the chance to capture that moment, because these little things always catch my eye, and I like to preserve them in photos.
Después de almorzar decidimos caminar un rato para bajar la comida y seguir disfrutando del paseo. En el recorrido vimos, cerca de la librería cafetería, una cabina telefónica muy llamativa que semejaba una de época. Por supuesto, no perdí la oportunidad de capturar ese momento, porque estas pequeñas cosas siempre me llaman la atención y me gusta guardarlas en fotos.
Then we walked through the sky bridge, which connects the new part of the mall to the old one. It’s called that because one was built earlier and the other years later, but in reality you don’t notice much difference between the two spaces; both areas blend together naturally.
Luego pasamos por el pasillo aéreo, que comunica la parte nueva del centro comercial con la vieja. Se le dice así porque una fue construida antes y la otra años después, pero en realidad no notas mucha diferencia en sus espacios; ambas áreas se integran de manera natural.
After walking for a while, we decided to head home to rest and chat with our son, who would be coming back from his friend’s house later that evening. We ended the day on a peaceful note, with that feeling of having made the most of Sunday to unwind a bit and get ready for the week ahead.

Después de caminar un rato decidimos marcharnos para descansar y conversar con nuestro hijo, que en la tarde-noche regresaría de casa de su amiga. Cerramos el día con tranquilidad, con esa sensación de haber aprovechado el domingo para desconectar un poco y prepararnos para la semana.
