[ENG/ESP] A busy, productive Thursday full of new insights
It seems the week is finally coming to a close, and with it comes a well-deserved break—that little gift we all look forward to. So, before the day gets any further along, I want to wish you all a happy Friday, filled with positive energy and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done. Although there’s still work to be done, my mind is already starting to look forward to the weekend, because this week has been particularly intense. Not so much physically, but mentally; we had contract renewals, agreement reviews, and the reworking of several budgets, which requires concentration, patience, and a lot of clarity.
Thursday, in particular, was an exhausting day. We had to split up and go to different locations to complete our full schedule of activities. We had to visit two hotels in the Sunsol chain: Unik and Isla Caribe. We usually count on the unconditional support of Luis, who is a key member of our team, but this time he couldn’t join us. He’s sick with a virus that has him so bad he can’t even speak. It’s only fair that he rest and recover, because health always comes first. However, work doesn’t stop and contracts must be fulfilled, so my husband and I took on the entire day’s workload.
We left early in the morning for the city. The weather was beautiful, though a bit stifling—typical of these days on the island. Even so, the scenery, as always, made the trip more pleasant. That mix of clear skies and a warm breeze has a special charm that manages to relax us even when we know a long day lies ahead.
Parece que la semana finalmente llega a su cierre y con ella se asoma el merecido descanso, ese pequeño regalo que todos esperamos con ansias. Por eso, antes de que el día avance, quiero desearles un feliz viernes, lleno de buenas energías y de la satisfacción que deja el deber cumplido. Aunque todavía queda trabajo por hacer, ya mi mente empieza a dibujar el descanso del fin de semana, porque esta semana ha sido particularmente intensa. No tanto en lo físico, sino en lo mental; tuvimos renovación de contratos, revisión de acuerdos y replanteamiento de varios presupuestos, lo que exige concentración, paciencia y mucha claridad.
El jueves, en especial, fue un día agotador. Tuvimos que dividirnos entre distintos lugares para poder cumplir con toda la programación de nuestras rutinas. Tocaba visitar dos hoteles de la cadena Sunsol: Unik e Isla Caribe. Normalmente contamos con el apoyo incondicional de Luis, que es parte fundamental de nuestro equipo, pero esta vez no pudo acompañarnos. Está enfermo con un virus que lo tiene tan mal que ni siquiera puede hablar. Lo justo es que descanse y se recupere, porque la salud siempre va primero. Sin embargo, el trabajo no se detiene y los contratos deben cumplirse, así que mi esposo y yo asumimos toda la jornada.
Salimos temprano en la mañana rumbo a la ciudad. El clima estaba radiante, aunque un poco sofocante, típico de estos días en la isla. Aun así, los paisajes, como siempre, se encargaron de suavizar el trayecto. Esa mezcla de cielo despejado y brisa cálida tiene un encanto especial que logra relajarnos incluso cuando sabemos que nos espera un día largo.
When we arrived at the Unik Hotel, everything went quite smoothly. We started with the main tank, chlorinating and disinfecting it as required. We had to wait a bit for the readings to stabilize before continuing with the inspection of the trench filters. There, we performed the necessary backwash and carefully checked the pressure, as this is a vital parameter for the system’s proper functioning and for preventing accidents. Finally, we moved on to the laundry filter, where we spent more time than expected. That filter has been malfunctioning for a week, after an employee accidentally tampered with it. The filter cartridges will need to be replaced very soon, because the last thing we can afford is for the hotel linens to get stained, even slightly.
Al llegar al hotel Unik todo fluyó bastante bien. Comenzamos por el tanque principal, clorando y desinfectando como corresponde. Tuvimos que esperar un poco a que los valores se estabilizaran antes de continuar con la revisión de los filtros de trinchera. Allí realizamos el retrolavado correspondiente y verificamos cuidadosamente la presión, porque ese es un parámetro vital para el buen funcionamiento del sistema y para evitar accidentes. Por último, pasamos al filtro de lavandería, donde nos demoramos más de lo previsto. Ese filtro viene presentando fallas desde hace una semana, luego de que un empleado lo manipulara por error. Muy pronto habrá que cambiarle las cargas, porque lo último que puede permitirse es que la lencería del hotel se manche, aunque sea mínimamente.
After setting new parameters for that filter, we left Unik and headed toward Sunsol Isla Caribe.

When we arrived, we carried out our routine checks at the water treatment plant, and to our delight, all the readings came back excellent. That sense of satisfaction is hard to describe; it’s like a mix of relief, pride, and peace of mind.

When we were done, we took a short walk through El Tirano, an area that always helps us relax and unwind. Being so close to the sea has an almost therapeutic effect; the sound of the waves, the smell of salt, the breeze… it all comes together to give us a moment of peace.
