The Garden is Filling up Fast - by Sunscape

I can hardly believe how huge everything has grown in just one month since planting. I just gave the vegetables a fresh dose of bone meal and a high-nitrogen tea I made from Alfalfa pellets. Within two days I could sware they grew inches.

I have been harvesting the largest leaves of Kale and within the next week, I will start picking this Chinese cabbage.

The heads are getting to be a nice size and will be perfect for making Kimchee soon.

The Roma tomato plants are starting to get tall now. Next week I will have to start attaching the stems to the cattle panels and trim some of the sucker branches as they grow.

Here are the Russet Potato plants that are growing in the Gro-bags and the earliest one on the right is in a regular pot. That tall one was started in the greenhouse back in late March. Also, the tower gardens are on their second plantings with radish, pak choi, and lettuce varieties. I am going to start thinning out the pak choi and I may even finish growing the in the regular garden space.

Next to the porch area I have my hanging baskets with the cabbage and cauliflower plants. This is a test to see how they do compare to being planted in the ground. So far, they are doing okay, but I may decide to plant them somewhere if I can find the room, lol.

The red cabbage is starting to form a head now and I am excited about that.

The snowball cauliflower has also started growing a cluster and I got so happy that I had my husband come outside to have a look. This is my first time growing both of these veggies and I think they will do fairly well this summer.

Today, all I have to do is cut the lawn and chill out on the porch with my little Mika. And that is all for this garden update for the week. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

How great that you have all this in your garden. A wonderful way to have your own food

I agree with you Denisse, it serves us well growing our own food every year.

Yeah. Currently at home we do not have many things, but we do have chili, bananas and some beautiful tomatoes

That is a beautiful tomato and I love chilis too. Bananas don't grow up here in the north for us but that sure would be fun to grow.

If my mom loves to have plants and harvest, lately she has not planted much because she has been a little sick. But we always have something to reap.

I'm jealous! Everything looks so neat and clean, and you have time to enjoy it! I'm still in the thick of putting stuff in. So much work!

Great job. YOu have a fabulous garden.

Thank you very much, I am already harvesting some of my cold-weather crops that I started back in April.
I have to agree with you, it is a lot of work and sometimes I wonder why I put myself through it all. lol
Then when the harvesting begins it is time to figure out how to preserve it all. I wish you a wonderful harvest from all your efforts @owasco

yes, when it finally starts producing, and there's not quite so much to do in the garden, you have to crank up the stove or dehydrator or freezer and start preserving stuff. Blissfully, winter arrives and we no longer have to be slaves to our gardens. I would never want to live where there is no break from gardening. This is plenty for me.

Everything is doing nicely, so far ahead of me. Looks like Mika is a happy camper. :))

Yes, the plants are getting so large now and I am already harvesting kale, green onion, and lettuce. Mika is my little garden helper and naps on my lap on the porch when we are finally finished for the morning. I hope your weather is being kind to your plantings. We are going to get some rain this week which will help things out a bit.

It all looks amazing, but I am so envious of the potatoes! We've only tried a small raised bed once, but I really need to get some bags like that to grow them again because I LOVE potatoes. They're one of my favorite things to eat.

The brassicas look amazing, as well! I tried cauliflower once, but never got past just leaves. So fun to see different things growing around the Hive Garden!

I am so excited about the potatoes in the grow bags. This is my first try at them and I can hardly wait to see the results. Gardening can be so exciting!
