Sunflowers Make Me Happy - by Sunscape

Look at the perfect symmetry in this large sunflower. I am always amazed at the design each sunflower makes as it unfurls with pollen. This one grew next to my little backyard pond from a seed that dropped from the birdfeeder. It is the largest sunflower head that I have ever had in my garden. I will be saving the seed from this one to grow a lot of them next spring.

I decided to take a few photos of the sunflower as it proceeded to open up each day.

All of the petals are almost fully opened and it is looking pretty nice and standing very strong on its own.

The following day it is fully open and the bees are visiting it all day long. Apparently, the pollen is ready for them to feast on.

After a few days, the entire sunflower head is full of pollen. I watched many different types of bees gather pollen every day until it no longer was viable for them.

I let the sunflower stay for another week or so before I cut the head off. It is now on the rack in my greenhouse drying out. I will be sure to plant some of the seeds next year.

Perhaps it is the color yellow that makes me feel happy, as I get that same feeling from daisies too.
These are sunflowers that I grew from seed this last spring. The package said they were "Mammoth" sunflowers. But, I have to say there was nothing mammoth about the size. The label was somewhat misleading in my opinion.

The bees are enjoying these smaller sunflowers. I only got 5 of them to grow as the deer topped many of them off for lunch one day.

This is one of my Monarch butterflies that I released into the garden. It did not take long for him to enjoy some nectar. I just adore the butterflies. So far I have released 8 of them this month and one will be hatching today as well.

I hope you have a wonderful, happy day and that you enjoyed seeing my beautiful sunflower images. Perhaps, they put a smile on your face too.

Wow! I've never seen a sunflower up this close. It's stunning to see all the intricacies of it.
We need more of these, and yes, I think it's the colour that puts me in a good mood instantly:)

I didn't get sunflowers this year. Something ate the sprouts...

That is a shame as I am sure the gardens would look so good with them. I have planted beans three times and each one of the plants is topped off by something.

I think the "something" here is either chipmunks, of which we had hundreds, or squirrels..

It could be as I have had my lower tomatoes eaten or half-chewed too. This year is the first time I have had trouble with certain crops. I picked lots of tomatoes this morning and beets too. More canning today! Have fun with your garden produce as you must have a lot coming in too.

Sunflowers definitely are the IT flower right now for me. Who can resist their perfect symmetry bobbing on their giant stalks? You have done well with the Monarchs this year. ❤️ Did your last one hatch yet?

The bees have really been all over the sunflowers in the fields here. I needed to get in further and was watching as the bees swooped at me. So different than the lavender fields where the bees were drunk from the free aromatherapy they got while visiting there. I can attest to the gentle pull into the calm state. I just didn't know that bees were affected. :)

Your garden is always lovely, Wanda. You do such a nice job with it.

Happy blooming!

Thank you as always, Denise. You are such a delightful friend who appreciates nature so much. I can imagine being in a large field of sunflowers with all the bees enjoying the feast. I had 12 Monarchs in all and the last one left yesterday, is so sad. I could not keep collecting eggs due to a little vacation to Niagra Falls in a couple weeks. I had no one to care for the caterpillars when I would be away. I found two Swallowtail cats on my dill in the garden and they just went into a cacoon. I have to see how long they stay in that state. I have to be sure someone can free them, ;-) Love and hugs to you! ♥
