Bees, Beetles, Butterflies, and Bugs - by Sunscape

Sometimes it is just fun to capture the little creatures. I am always seeing a variety of bees in the garden throughout the summer and into early fall. This honeybee is gathering some fresh nectar from a Calendula flower.

Butterflies are abundant in the flower gardens at my home. I love having a variety of them visiting all summer too.

Check out the lady beetles that are swarming on the house in the afternoon sunshine. I wonder if they migrate. I see them in swarms very early in the spring and now they are here again this fall in vast numbers. I can not even begin to describe how many are all over the house. When I went to get into my car, they were all over it too.

Another insect that has been swarming the house for the past month has been these "brown marmorated stink bugs". I often wondered why they were called stink bugs. Then one day I stepped on one and then I knew. I have to say it was a very unpleasant smell that I hope I don't ever experience again. lol

I was checking out the incoming weather pattern on my laptop and one flew right onto the screen. Perhaps it was curious about the weather too.

The stink bugs are everywhere on my back porch as well and our puppy loves playing with them.

One of the fun things about fall is finding the wolly caterpillars among the fall leaves. This top photo is of one I found on my cousin's deck a few towns south of me.

This one my husband found while raking some leaves out of the garden. Mika is intrigued by the caterpillar.

It is apparent that they both practically have the same amount of black on both ends.

If their rusty band is wide, it should be a mild winter. The more black there is, the more severe the winter will be according to the Farmer's Almanac. I wonder if anyone has ever kept a log to see if the wooly is a good predictor of our winters.

I have to say it looks to be a snowy and cold winter this year. What do you think? Have a great week everyone.

Knock wood, this is one year we have not been inundated by the Asian ladybugs. I've also not seen that many stink bugs in the house, so far.

I love your shots of all the critters you see on the flowers.

I have to laugh at the amount of bugs in the windows, the car, and all over the place. They really are a lot this year. I am happy you enjoy the photos. Are you feeling any better and stronger yet? I hope you are, best regards. ♥
