Hello to all the members of this community and photography lovers! Today I'm here to show you a photography exhibition I came across while visiting the Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas (Venezuela), called "La Creación necesario" (The Necessary Creation) by Daniel González, who received the 2022 National Culture Award for photography and is known for working in various artistic fields, as well as being part of an artist movement called "El techo de la ballena" (The Whale's Roof), whose heyday left its mark in the 1960s.

I don't consider myself an expert on photography; in fact, I'm quite an amateur on the subject. But after starting to visit galleries and museums and encountering exhibitions dedicated to this form of expression, I've gradually grown fonder of it. A photograph is more than a simple image. Through it, we not only gain access to a past vision, but we can even glean a message, a small glimpse into what the photographer experienced at the time.

After this exhibition, I was inspired to research Daniel González, as well as the group of artists to which he belonged. I discovered a world I was unfamiliar with, but it allowed me to see the photographs from a different perspective. At first, I was like the other attendees, only seeing black and white photographs from a bygone era. But then, I found myself immersed in the photographer's experiences, gathered with his acquaintances in a space that, at one time, was the cradle of a developing cultural and artistic movement. I felt the strength and, above all, the camaraderie. To form a solid group, you need not only people with similar interests, but also the determination to move forward, and these artists had the conviction necessary to make themselves heard and express their ideals.

Through his photographs, Daniel documented what was happening around him, sometimes in a raw and forceful way, but one that was right and necessary. As with the paintings, I like to spend time looking at the photographs, not trying to unravel the hidden message, but rather, imagining myself in that moment and from the photographer's perspective, waiting for whatever feelings arise. In Daniel's exhibition, I found myself with a melancholic feeling, typical of events from a time I didn't live through, although I also felt strongly drawn to some images that, in their silence, captured me.

I find it difficult to get good shots of photography exhibitions, as they are usually framed, and since I don't know much about lighting, I do my best to avoid glass reflections from affecting the shot. 😅 On the other hand, there was another room set aside for Daniel González, but in his role as a draftsman. It's a selection of fascinating works that I hope to show you in more detail in a future post.

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la fotografía! El día de hoy vengo a mostrarles una exposición de fotografías que me encontré mientras visitaba el Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas (Venezuela), llamada "La creación necesaria" de Daniel González, quien recibió el Premio Nacional de Cultura 2022 de fotografía y es conocido por desempeñarse en varios ámbitos artísticos, así como formar parte de un movimiento de artistas llamado "El techo de la ballena", cuyo auge dejó huella en la década de los 60.

No me considero una experta en fotografía, de hecho, soy bastante amateur con respecto al tema, pero luego de comenzar a asistir a las galerías y museos y hallarme con exposiciones dedicadas a ésta forma de expresión, poco a poco me he ido encariñando con el mismo. Una fotografía es más que una simple imagen, a través de ella, no sólo tenemos acceso a una visión pasada, sino que hasta podemos obtener un mensaje, un pequeño pasaje a lo que el fotógrafo experimentó en su momento.

Tras ésta exposición, me animé a buscar sobre Daniel González, así como del grupo de artistas al que pertenecía. Me hallé con un mundo que desconocía, pero que me permitió ver las fotografías desde otro enfoque. Al principio, fui como los demás asistentes, sólo viendo fotografías en blanco y negro que pertenecían a una época pasada. Pero luego, me hallé con las vivencias del fotógrafo, reunido con sus conocidos en un espacio que en su momento, fue la cuna de un movimiento cultural y artístico que estaba desarrollándose. Sentí la fuerza y sobre todo, la camaradería. Para conformar un grupo sólido se necesita no sólo de personas con intereses afines, sino con la determinación para sacar el mismo adelante y estos artistas tenían la convicción necesaria para hacerse escuchar y expresar sus ideales.

A través de sus fotografías, Daniel documentaba lo que sucedía a su alrededor, en ocasiones de una forma cruda y contundente, pero que era justa y necesaria. Al igual como sucede con los cuadros, me gusta permanecer un tiempo contemplando las fotografías, no intentando desentrañar el mensaje oculto del autor, sino más bien, imaginándome que me encuentro en ese momento y desde la misma perspectiva del fotógrafo, permanezco a la espera de cualquier sentimiento que surja. En la exposición de Daniel, me hallé con un sentimiento melancólico, propio de los eventos de una época que no viví, aunque me sentí también fuertemente atraída por algunas imágenes que en su silencio, me atrapaban.

Se me hace difícil obtener buenas tomas de exposiciones fotográficas, ya que por lo general, las mismas se encuentran enmarcadas y como no sé sobre iluminación, hago lo mejor que puedo para que el reflejo de los vidrios, no afecte a la hora de hacer una toma 😅 Por otro lado, había otra sala dispuesta para Daniel González, pero en su faceta como dibujante. Son una selección de obras fascinantes que espero mostrarles a mayor detalle en una próxima publicación.
