Hello to everyone in this community and cat lovers! I'm staying with my cat, Ikki, for a few more days. Since I arrived, I've been worried about the number of fleas Ikki had, which was causing him to scratch and lick himself to the point of hurting his skin. He was given a flea treatment, and my boyfriend sat down to pick the fleas off him every day, but it wasn't enough to solve the problem. A bath was necessary. Although anyone who owns a cat will agree that bathing them isn't so easy... unless your cats are the kind that love getting wet and baths (my friend's cat loves it and is always looking for an opportunity to get into water).

I hadn't bathed Ikki in a long time, I can't even remember how long. Since he's been living with other cats, his temperament has become more aggressive than before, and it's impossible for me to bathe him alone, something I used to do when he was a few months old. The only way I can bathe him now is with the help of my boyfriend's father, a big, strong man who can hold Ikki for the entire bath. This is crucial because Ikki won't stay still during the bath; he'll kick, bite, and do everything he can to get away.
That's why I was a little anxious. I knew it had to be quick and as painless as possible for Ikki. The water warmed up, which helped Ikki not get too upset when I started wetting him. But he was still fussy; he hates baths, so he tried to get away several times, without success. I spoke to him gently and stroked him while making eye contact. I wanted him to know that everything was alright and that I was the one bathing him. I hurried and applied the special flea shampoo my boyfriend had bought at the pet store, which I rinsed off almost immediately, since I didn't want to make the bath too long.

After rinsing out the shampoo, we started drying him, and Ikki seemed to relax when he realized he wasn't getting any more water, although he still seemed wary of the situation. Then we gave him a treat, a Churu (cat food), which completely changed his mood. Afterward, we let him go out and get some sun.
For me, bathing him was quite an accomplishment, not only because it wasn't easy, but also because it changed the color of Ikki's fur (he was clearly dirty, since he loves rolling around in the dirt). Plus, all the fleas disappeared! And he had so many! So many that I was worried about his health. Now, Ikki sleeps peacefully every night (before, he would wake up all the time scratching and yelping), and you can see the difference in his demeanor; he's much calmer. I imagine he feels relaxed and relieved not to have to scratch anymore. Now, to keep his fur black and shiny, I'll be brushing him regularly with a damp brush, and my boyfriend is checking him to make sure the fleas haven't come back.

Whenever bathing cats is mentioned, someone always shouts a resounding "No!" But in extreme cases, it's necessary. If we had waited any longer, the fleas could have affected Ikki's health, not to mention that living in the countryside, it's inevitable that his fur will end up covered in dirt 😅 Some neighbors have mentioned that they've also had recent flea infestations in their homes, so we've cleaned the place to prevent them from spreading... with all this, we hope to keep Ikki flea-free as much as possible 🤚

Cat are the hardest pet to bath, they will scratch you everywhere if they're now use to it. Good for Ikki he get to have a bath. Our cat just clean their self, its a good thing they don't have fleas. Kisses for that handsome baby 🥰
That's right! I tried to get him used to baths, but he didn't like them from the start, even though I was careful to use lukewarm water and be gentle 😅 At least I achieved my goal, and Ikki looks much better than when I got him 😌 I'm so glad your cat is flea-free! Let's hope he stays that way, because having them must be a real nuisance 😓 Thanks for visiting my post and for commenting. I'll give Ikki a kiss for you 😉💚
Poor Ikki! Is it possible to get Selamectin or even better Fluralaner products? Those work well against fleas and it's true that many other products don't. Did you also give him Tapeworm medication? Unfortunately fleas are the carriers of tapeworms in cats
Pet medications are often expensive or there are very few options available, but the first thing we did was deworm him, so hopefully he won't suffer any repercussions from spending that time covered in fleas 🙃 Since we bathed him, he hasn't had any more fleas (my boyfriend checks him constantly), he sleeps through the night without waking up, and he seems more lively... so, I'm optimistic, but I'll keep an eye on him while he's here 😌 Thank you so much for visiting my post, for commenting, and for your concern 😙💚
