Hello to all the members of this community! As I mentioned in previous posts, during my last visit to Barquisimeto (Venezuela), I was able to meet up with my friends, including Julie, whom I hadn't seen in person since around the end of September last year. Getting together with Julie isn't easy, since she has a young son in preschool and no one to care for him. So, any get-togethers or outings she organizes are always with her son, which is a bit difficult considering her school activities and the fact that the children get bored very quickly.

Julie and I met at Japanese animation events held in Barquisimeto. During that time, we cosplayed (dressing up as our favorite characters) and bought a lot of merchandise from the series we liked. Not to mention, we were some of the loudest at the event, as we were so excited to find cosplayers of our favorite characters and sometimes even participated in contests. Back then, the photos we took at those venues were much more appreciated than they are now.

As I mentioned, the last time I saw my friend was at an anime event I attended, and she was able to bring her young son. Before that, I hadn't seen the boy since he was a baby, specifically when I took his measurements to make him a onesie I was going to sew with the Pokémon characters Squirtle and Bulbasaur (my friend tells me she still has them 😊). Of course, the boy didn't remember that, so when he saw me "for the first time" at the MATSUCON event, he became very attached to me. The little one is quite energetic like any child, so that day he didn't want to leave my side.

Another thing that made it difficult for me to meet up with my friend was the area where she lives. I tend to stay in the northern part of the city, and when I go out, I usually visit the downtown and eastern areas, which are the busiest. But Julie lives in the western part of the city. A region I don't usually go to much. In fact, I haven't been there much since I was a student at the University, since the UCLA Dean of Science and Technology is located in that area. Because of that, I'm not exactly familiar with the western part, and I'm the kind of person who's a little hesitant when it comes to a new place, mostly because I easily get lost in places I don't frequent. Although I admit that I find my way around Barquisimeto much more easily than in the capital, because the signage system is quite comfortable and understandable. So when my friend invited me to her house, I wanted to try to get there, as I was quite excited after my experiences venturing around the capital.

My friend gave me directions and the specific route she would take to get there. I confess I was quite anxious since I don't usually use vans in the capital; I mostly use the subway. When I lived in Barquisimeto, I lived in the downtown area and I admit I preferred to walk everywhere (I know, I walk too much 😆). But I had nothing to lose. It took me a while to figure out where I would wait for the bus, but after a few minutes of waiting, it arrived, and I enjoyed the view, observing the route, which was similar to the one I took when I was commuting to the University. It passed by the Obelisco, one of the city's iconic structures. Then I started to enter "new territory," meaning places I hadn't been before. I tried to pay attention to the entire route, mostly to see what I'd find, spotting a themed cafe I'd like to visit sometime soon. That way, I finally made it to my friend's house safe and sound.

My friend was very happy that I had been able to arrive without any difficulties, and her young son was overjoyed to see me. It took him a while to recognize me since the last time we met, I was wearing a cosplay costume and a wig 😆.

The next step was catching up on everything we had to talk about, and my friend's little son simply wanted my undivided attention. I don't interact much with children these days, but that little one reminded me of the days when I was taking classes and my classmates' children always ended up hanging out with me, and inevitably I would always babysit or find ways to distract them while we watched the classes. So I tried to distract him while my friend finished lunch.

I also met the cat my friend adopted, which reminded me of my own, since they're both black. I took the opportunity to give her advice on cat care and was happy to know she plans to have him neutered soon. But the best part is that my friend's son adores him, and the cat obviously likes playing with him, because he used to seek him out a lot.

Time passed too quickly between conversations. We had lunch, drank coffee, and before we knew it, it was time to return to where I was staying. Transportation is somewhat difficult in some areas of Barquisimeto, so it's best to do everything early.

Even though it was a short visit, I had a pretty good time. Now that I know how to get to my friend's house, I know I could visit her much more often. Not to mention that having dared to go to a different place in that city inspires me to continue exploring new areas on my future trips ✨

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad! Como les comenté en posts anteriores, durante mi última visita a Barquisimeto (Venezuela), pude reunirme con mis amigas, entre ellas Julie, a quien no veía en persona desde más o menos finales del mes de septiembre del año pasado. Reunirme con Julie no es nada fácil, ya que ella tiene un hijo pequeño que está en preescolar y no tiene quien se lo cuide. Así que las reuniones o salidas que ella realiza siempre es con su hijo, lo cual es un poco difícil si contamos con sus actividades escolares y que los niños se aburren muy rápido.

Julie y yo nos conocimos en los eventos sobre animación japonesa que se hacían en la ciudad de Barquisimeto. Durante esa época nosotras hacíamos cosplay (nos vestíamos como nuestros personajes favoritos) y comprábamos mucho merchandise de las series que nos gustaban. Sin mencionar que éramos de las más ruidosas del evento, pues nos emocionábamos mucho cuando encontrábamos cosplayers de nuestros personajes favoritos y nos animábamos a veces a participar en los concursos. En ese tiempo, las fotos que se obtenían en esos lugares, se apreciaban mucho más que ahora.

Como mencioné, la última vez que había visto a mi amiga, fue en un evento sobre anime al cual asistí y ella pudo llevar a su pequeño hijo. Anterior a eso, no veía al niño desde que era un bebé, más específicamente cuando le tomé las medidas para hacerle un enterizo que iba a coserle de los personajes de Pokémon Squirttle y Bulbasaur (mi amiga me dice que aún los conserva 😊). Por supuesto el niño no se acordaba de eso, así que cuando me vio "por primera vez" en el evento MATSUCON se encariñó mucho conmigo. El pequeño es bastante enérgico como todo niño, así que ese día no se quería despegar de mí.

Otra cosa que me dificultaba reunirme con mi amiga, es la zona en donde ella vive. Ya que yo suelo quedarme en la zona Norte de la ciudad y a la hora de pasear, suelo visitar la mayoría del tiempo, la zona Centro y el Este, que son los más concurridos. Pero Julie vive en la zona Oeste de la ciudad. Una región a la cual no suelo ir mucho. De hecho, no suelo transitar por allí desde que estudiaba en la Universidad, siendo que el decanato de Ciencias y Tecnología de la UCLA, queda por esa zona. Debido a eso, no conozco como tal la zona Oeste y soy la clase de personas que duda un poco cuando se trata de un lugar nuevo, más que nada porque me pierdo con facilidad en los sitios que no frecuento. Aunque admito que en la ciudad de Barquisimeto me guío mucho más fácil que en la capital, porque el sistema de los letreros se me hace bastante cómodo y comprensible. Así que cuando me amiga me invitó a su casa, quise intentar llegar, pues estaba bastante animada luego de mis experiencias aventurándome en la capital.

Mi amiga me indicó la dirección y que ruta escogería específicamente para llegar hasta allá. Confieso que estaba bastante ansiosa ya que en la capital no suelo usar camionetas, más que nada me traslado utilizando el subterráneo y cuando vivía en Barquisimeto, llegué a vivir en la zona Centro y admito que prefería ir caminando a todos lados (lo sé, camino demasiado 😆). Pero no tenía nada que perder. Me costó un poco saber en que sitio específicamente esperaría el ruta, pero luego de unos minutos de espera, el mismo llegó y disfruté de la vista, pudiendo observar el recorrido que era parecido al que hacía cuando iba a la Universidad. Pasando por el Obelisco, una de las estructuras icónicas de la ciudad. Luego comencé a entrar a "terreno nuevo", es decir, a lugares a donde no había ido. Traté de estar pendiente de todo el recorrido, más que nada para ver con qué me encontraba, divisando una cafetería temática que me gustaría visitar en alguna oportunidad. De esa forma, finalmente pude llegar a casa de mi amiga sana y salva.

Mi amiga estaba muy feliz de que hubiera podido llegar sin ninguna clase de dificultad y su pequeño hijo se alegró muchísimo al verme. Le costó un poco reconocerme ya que la vez pasada que nos habíamos visto, yo vestía un cosplay o disfraz y tenía puesta una peluca 😆.

Lo siguiente fue ponernos al día con todo lo que teníamos que hablar y el pequeño hijo de mi amiga simplemente quería toda mi atención. No suelo interactuar mucho con niños en la actualidad, pero ese pequeño me hizo sentir la época en la cual asistía a cursos y los hijos de mis compañeras, siempre acababan por juntarse conmigo e inevitablemente yo siempre los cuidaba o buscaba las formas para distraerlos mientras veíamos las clases, así que trataba de distraerlo mientras mi amiga se encargaba de terminar el almuerzo.

También conocí al gato que mi amiga adoptó, el cual me hizo acordar al mío, ya que ambos son de color negro. Aproveché de aconsejarle acerca del cuidado de los gatos y me alegré de saber que tiene pensado castrarlo dentro de poco, pero lo mejor, es que el hijo de mi amiga, lo adora y se ve que al gato, le gusta jugar con él, porque lo buscaba mucho.

El tiempo pasó demasiado rápido entre charla y charla, almorzamos, bebimos café y para cuando nos dimos cuenta, ya era hora de retornar al sitio en donde me estaba hospedando. El transporte es algo difícil en algunas zonas de Barquisimeto, así que es preferible hacer todo temprano.

A pesar de que fue una visita corta, la pasé bastante bien. Ahora que sé cómo llegar a la casa de mi amiga, sé que podría visitarla con mucha más frecuencia. Sin mencionar que haberme atrevido a ir a un sitio diferente de aquella ciudad, me da ánimos para seguir explorando nuevas zonas en mis próximos viajes ✨
