April foolsday #Wednesdaywalk

Good day ,

This morning i went for a walk in the forrest with my wife to see if the spring is showing some signs .

It was nice and sunny +/- 13 degrees celcius and not to much wind, but the groundwater levels were still high as you can see in the photos. Last autumn all those ponds and ditches were completly dry.

1 ) At the parking lot looking towards the forrest, the weather looks lovely.

2 ) On the side of the road i spotted this tiny purple flower Glechoma hederacea / ground-ivy flowering.

3 )On this side of the forrest stilll not many leaves on the trees , even the reet still needs to grow.

4 )

5 ) Rabelera holostea / was Stellaria holostea until 2019 / greater stitchwort

6 ) Last time we visited this place was in autumn for mushrooms , back then this ditch was completly dry.
With all the snow and rain we had the groundwater level has risen , but all could be gone in a matter of weeks if it stays dry for a long period again like last year.

7 ) The old Beech trees had to go they were sick andalready mostly dead

9 ) I wasn't able to count the rings but i guess it was over 100 years old.

10 ) Polytrichastrum formosum / bank haircap moss

11 ) In the more open areas of the forrest you can see that the young growth already have some leaves on them.
A7403172.jpg

12 ) Even the big pond was completly filled with water, i have never seen it filled with water before.
A7403183.jpg

13 ) The water level was so high that the walking path was completly muddy.
A7403192.jpg

14 ) But i was able to capture some nice #reflections on the water

16 ) Young beech tree with fresh green leaves

17 ) And the verns are unrolling the leaves, slowly the forrest wakes up from the wintersleep.
A7403212.jpg

18 ) Here are the beech leaves in a different stage of unfolding. , other beech trees didn't even start yet with unfolding of the leaves .

19 ) And here we are back at the parking lot again time to go home and get some coffee.
