This is my first post for this community, and my cat is nasty piece of work,
so I thought it will be better to melt your hearts a little first:)

Game of chance

The pictures I present to you today are from almost 8 years ago. They were taken on the same day that the cast was put on. The unfortunate fracture happened to my cat during one of her favourite 'game'. Whenever the balcony door was open - Tamika would run across the length of the room as fast as she could and jump onto the balcony railing.

She did this so often and with such lightness and nonchalance that it never occurred to me that one day her luck might leave her.

Look before you leap

Unfortunately it did - I went out onto the balcony to water the flowers. I ran out of water - so I went into the bathroom to get more, went out onto the balcony to water the rest of the plants I heard meowing, but as if from afar. I looked out over the balcony - I saw a black(from a distance it is black though) cat in the street, sitting under our balcony. I ran outside - Tamika was sitting on the pavement, not moving. I stroked her head - she came closer to me but curled up with her back paw. I took her home, wrapped her in a blanket, packed her in a carrier and we drove to the vet. Still in the cab, I called the vet clinic with the information that I am bringing a cat with a suspected serious injury.

No luck, this time around

On the spot, the vet gave her an injection straight away so that she wouldn't lash out - even though it was obvious she was in huge pain - she managed to scratch both the vet and his assistant, and me :D They took an x-ray - it turned out that her leg was broken at the ankle joint. The vet first used cryotherapy - icy air froze the leg slightly so it wouldn't swell, and hurt less later. Then a plaster cast was put on all the way to her hip, so she wasn't able to move the leg at all.

I took her home in my arms because I was worried she might hurt herself in the carrier. She cuddled up to me and meowed quietly for a while. Already at home - I had to help her with using the litter tray. It was difficult for her to lick herself, so I combed her more often than usual, and washed her with a damp cloth. My heart was breaking. But after only 2 days - Tamika started to limp around the house.

The fluffy pirate coped very well with the presence of the cast. After less than 4 days she was able to use the litter tray without my help.

And now the best part

After 5 weeks the the cast was removed. The leg looked good, Tamika was immediately able to walk normally, she would just endlessly licking the 'new leg'. We came home, I open the carrier, the cat went to the balcony door.

-No way. I won't open the door for you!

-Miau

-No!

That same evening I come out of the kitchen - the balcony door is open and the cat is sitting on the railing.

-I told you not to open the balcony!
-I just put the pot of soup out to cool down.
-Look!
I pointed to the cat sitting on the balustrade.

The next day we bought a net :D

The fluffy pirate...

😆 too funny. That must have been such a difficult experience to go through, but the happy ending makes it better. Tamika looks like a character. Cats are the best animal companions, in my biased opinion anyway!

Btw, what's the story of how you named her? : )

It was no fun, really. When I saw her on the pavement I swear - my heart skipped the beat.

I wasn't trying to be funny - she is nasty character :D I will do more posts about her, that's for sure:)

So the name is from very old PC game - Heroes III. It's a turn-based, strategy game, released in 99' if I remember correctly.

In the game you have several cities to choose from, which you run the game with. In each city you have available heroes 'for hire'. And in one of the cities - the necropolis - there is a particularly nasty character - Tamika. She is the fastest hero from this castle, and has really good statistics. And for whatever reason - when you play with the computer - she always attacks at the least expected moment. Sneaky one!

I have lost several nice games because of her :D

I honestly think that her horrible character is my fault, I chose that name!

Oh, wow. That's an in-depth background for her name. She must be a mind-reader, lol. Sounds like a fitting name for her, being such a character. How can such a nasty girl have such a photogenic face? 😆

So, while a cat may always land on its feet, it may not always be fully intact afterwards. She's got a great friend-owner : )

I really adore this game! :)

She was immobilised so I could take a reasonably sharp picture of her :D She's in constant motion, it's really difficult to take any picture :D not that I wish her another cast.... :D

At the time I lived on the third floor, so it may not have been very high, but a fall on the pavement from such a height would have put any acrobat in a cast.

I took her with me from Poland, when I moved to UK, so even though she is pain - I still do love this creature:)

Oh, wow, you 2 have been companions for quite a while now. You know each other well at this point! When I was little, my family had two cats, a lot of good memories with them 😊.

Looking forward to more Tamika stories : )
Hopefully, they are more pleasant stories without casts or bruises!

Oh yeah, 13 years! There will be more stories, but all of them include good deal of scratching, so buckle up :D

No more cast(s), that I promise though:)

Lol! This kitty has claws 😼. 13 years, that's definitely a long friendship. I'll be looking out for more Tamika stories.

Oh, Tamika is not one of the grateful animals :D Nevertheless - I am responsible for her and I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't want to help her.

Besides - even though she can be really mean - I love her:)

Oh, Tamika no es uno de los animales agradecidos :D No obstante - soy responsable de ella y no puedo imaginar una situación en la que no quisiera ayudarla.

Además, aunque puede ser muy mala, la quiero:)

What a character! I have a cat that fell 10m off our window ledge. Miraculously, he wasn't seriously hurt but he learned his lesson and never went there again

Thank you so much for popping by @nikiv!
10 m is a long way. I imagine that outcome depend from what ground is made from :D I am glad your cat is ok, that's more important. And your cat had learn hard way, but he did. My is just... stupid I guess :D

Whats more - that wasn't first 'kamikaze' moment for her. She would get into a lot of troubles over time :D I don't know how it is possible she is still around to be honest. She is 13 (human)years old now:)

Aw bless her! She must have hated dragging that cast around !LOLZ I can't believe she went straight back to the balcony once she was healed - daft kitty!!! This reminded me so much of when my Foxie got injured. He is the ginger cat I told you about who passed away in 2010. He was a sweetheart and my little bruiser kitty. He was mine mine mine hehe... and he would headbutt me with love often 😂 He must have been hit by a car and our neighbour found him dragging himself up the drive. He ended up with on eleg amputated and a metal rod inside his other leg and a bandage cast so that it could heal but the entry point for the metal rod wouldn't heal. He licked it constantly, ripped off any medical collars. It kept getting infected but my cat was so clever. He knew his body was rejecting the rod and so what did he do? He grabbed the end as it protruded through the hole and pulled it out with his teeth!!! Thereafter he was a very happy kitty and his leg healed up enough for him to be our new hop-a-long kitty 💗 !LUV !Hug

Your cat was amazing - animal are so smart, it is always amaze me, really. Nature is smarter than we are.
