Mexican Murals - Weird Marine Stuff in La Paz [CCC's Street Art Contest #311]

As I said, the town of La Paz, Baja California Sur, is full of murals. So much so, that after a while it needs something extra special to make you stop and take a good look... and then, another one. This is certainly an example of such a piece of art.

At first it appears to be a typical ocean scene. It has a turtle, a hammerhead shark, a guy on a boat... Just like so many wall paintings celebrating the oceanic wildlife that makes this part of the world special. But then you look more closely, and realize... What the...???

There are faces in the shark... and hands... and the closed windows has been incorporated into the image as the rocky shore the guys are standing on, line fishing.

Even the man on the boat has become the backdrop to more crazy images. Check out his pants, and the desert image on his back!

Even though I did not find the overall mural all too appealing, these little facets made it highly interesting. Just like the images, the url integrated into the mural opens up new stories. We also find out that the artist Uli Martinez created this piece in 2017 with Efrén Olalde, and titled it El Esterito.
