Barred Owl video in Vermont

Face

A Barred Owl visited my backyard today ๐Ÿ™‚

Profile

Stayed for long enough from some photos and a short video.

Side

Barred owls are pretty common in our area. We live in the woods of central Vermont. The open area around our house provides a nice hunting area for the owls.

Landscape

Lots of small animals - mice, voles, moles plus rabbits and squirrels but I think the prefer the smaller prey.

3/4

We like it in the summer when we hear the owls at night. We usually can sleep with the windows open almost all summer. Unfortunately it hasn't been above freezing yet this year and won't be for a few more days.

We've never seen anything near our yard. There was a pair of young owls that people saw a lot last summer. Probably about a mile away.

Owls are interesting creatures. I live in the Pacific Northwest in the forest, and you can often hear them calling across the canopy, to each other. I love listening to them. Even today, I heard one close by hooting. It was awesome.

Great video. They are majestic in their presence. Thank you for sharing!

Such a beautiful animal! We don't have that species here, but I do see sometimes owls even where I live, in an urban area. Been long since I saw one!

Barred Owls are "people curious". They are the only species we see around here. In California we saw Great Horned and Barn owls. We are actually going out driving today looking for Snowy Owls. They come down here from Canada sometimes in the winter.

I hear them often in the remains of the woods to the north of me. You got some nice shots of it!

Beautiful!
We have owls on our recently acquired plot of land in Molise, Italy but I haven't been able to spot them yet. So, in all honesty, I don't even know the type :^)
They are amazing creatures though.

Thanks. This is the only type owl we have seen around our place. When we lived in California we saw Great Horned Owls and Barn owls. Your owls will reveal themselves eventually ๐Ÿ™‚ since you will be living on the land you will see them just a matter of time outside at dawn and dusk and eventually you will encounter them.

It's great to have a neighbor like that, and it's practical for limiting the proliferation of mice.
Have a great week

Thanks. We are hoping for some help with the mice that live in the garden next spring ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks. Got 3-4 inches of snow last night. Seems like lots of snow so far this year.
