VINS presentation on raptors

We took my wife's young cousins to a presentation on raptors at the newly remodelled Isley Library in Middlebury, Vermont.

I couldn't resist posting pictures of an owl with books as a backdrop 😆 this is an Eastern Screech owl specifically.

The presenter kept the birds moving and the lighting wasn't great and I was zooming from a ways back... so the photos are perfect. But the birds are beautiful.

Next up was an American Kestral which is a small falcon. We see these around occasionally now but lived in an area where they were ever present in California.

The presenter was occasionally feeding them. They knew the routine well and would act up every few minutes until receiving some food.

The largest raptor shown was a Red Shouldered Hawk. You can actually see the red shoulder in this photo.

Red Shoulder Hawks is a medium sized hawk.

VINS put on the presentation. The Vermont Institute of Natural Science runs a raptor rehab center in Quechee, Vermont near the Connecticut River valley. By the way, the Isley Library remodel is spectacular. They spent $17 million dollars. It is first rate throughout. We were faced with a choice between taking the kids to a storytime at a different library or the VINS raptor presentation. I think we made the right choice 🙂
